Finally, a coot fan that sees why we get the big fish and

they don't.

this on FGF

I don't have a factual answer based on any inside knowledge. I do however know a young man ( I coached him for two years before I moved schools) who has an offer and is being recruited by both schools. He has visited both and camped at both. South Carolina was his first offer, Clemson and Wake, UGA and a couple of smaller schools have offered since. He's a 4 Star OL. He just finished his junior year in HS. He has had an offer from Carolina since July or so of 14. However, once he got his offer, the contact from our staff completely stopped. I speak with him regularly and he says he can't get our coaches to call him back, they don't call him to initiate, etc. He hears from Clemson constantly. They make him feel like the priority that he is. He comes from a poor background, non-traditional family, and has watched him single mom struggle all his life
He goes to clemson and calls me right after the game. "Coach, I really like it here, it feels like family." They make me feel welcome, blah blah blah. All the stuff you here from the kids they recruit. I think they do a great sale job on what they are, small town, small feel, come here, be a big fish at clemson-the world is yours.
I personally contacted our coaching staff and told them of his experience at Clemson and that he had a "great time" there.
They assured me that they would contact him. They did, but, they came to see a game of his versus Summerville. The fellow that I coach said that two of our coaches spent the whole time talking with Zach Bailey of Summerville, and sat on Summerville's sideline. They spoke to my former player once before the game, and not again. He has not heard from them since. Even Kevin Steele from Alabama came to see this young man personally. He's a big deal, and will have 20+ offers. He's in our back yard and we're letting him slip away because he doesn't feel wanted.

If this it true, it's totally unacceptable and needs to be brought to Ray Tanner's attention. No excuse for this, none. This is a worse offense than the terrible D we put on the field, imo, because it's 100% controllable.

Why would $CU coaches bust their a$$es recruiting......

Jan 20, 2015, 3:19 PM

when it's not even clear if some of them will still have a job after February?

So a trusted coach is trying to sway his decision?

Jan 20, 2015, 3:22 PM

Good job supporting your former athlete through this process. I'm sure he appreciates you only supporting the USCe staff instead of helping him make an informed and better decision.

Putting things like this on message boards

Jan 20, 2015, 3:26 PM [ in reply to So a trusted coach is trying to sway his decision? ]

is a violation of trust. It is not too hard to figure out who the recruit is to anyone that wants to investigate it. Plays Summerville, is a 4* prospect, SC was first to offer-pretty easy to find out who he is talking about. Then he does not stop there, he talks about the kids personal life and his relationships with his family.

Total violation of trust. Why? Because you are bitter that the coaching staff at scar does not build relationships.

Highly inappropriate!

Re: And it continues...

Jan 20, 2015, 3:53 PM

If it is the prospect mentioned above, then someone needs to contact his head coach and tell him that his former assistant coaches need to keep the kids life off the internet message boards.

If that were my kid, I would have that guys job.

Me talking about a kids situation or a kid talking about his

It is not even comparable a little bit.

You are 100% correct about the trust betrayal

I thought the same. Just another example of coot "integrity"...

Jan 20, 2015, 8:16 PM

I think your spot on, besides the football aspect and winning games and all that, Why wouldn't anybody want a kid they coached to go to clemson? Better education, higher graduation rates, kids get in less trouble, and a coaching staff with good morals. The guy would have to be a die hard coot fan looking through garnet glasses. Especially now or the next few years, cause I know we make fun of ucs and all, but spurrier is on the back nine, a new coaching staff will be in there in a few years at the latest, recruiting is on its way down. Where as at clemson, things are established, we are signing the nations best players and already have some of the best.

Jan 20, 2015, 3:39 PM

This coach's post is highly inappropriate. The recruiting process is hard enough for these young men without the coaches they trust blabbing about personal circumstances and personal conversations between them.

Jan 20, 2015, 3:52 PM

Talk a kid into living in Columbia or playing for a dumpster fire of a football program. It's hard to sell doo doo when you have lobster near lake hartwell. I don't blame those coaches, I'd have the same attitude. It's the gamecocks for crying out loud. Not a real sec contender. They're going back to there norm. And all order is restored. But they had a great run but those #1 player in the country recruits are long gone and can't carry the program anymore. Back to the smelleys and syvelle newtons of the world. They did have their chance though but they blew it.
