Our culture needs to look at itself in the mirror when we

are so outraged by a man punching another man who was struck first and being disrespected aggressively in his face. Battle lost his temper, and he should be punished... but I am more worried about our society if women have de-balled us so friggin much that we have been convinced that punching makes a person a thug.
He broke the rules... just like players who hold, or chop block, or facemask, or whatever. What has happened to masculinity in this country? People watching dances with the stars and American Idol too d@mned much. Go chop some wood!

I would say it has more to do with being completely selfish in the moment and not really caring about the consequences to your team. What if the fool loses his temper v. FSU, with a tie game in the 4th, on a big drive? There is a reason that Battle isn't playing as much as some Tiger fans think he should, and the whole nation saw his lack of mental toughness. What disheartened me even more was his delight in giving replays on the sideline to a national TV audience--brilliant!

I am commenting on the reaction that has labeled the behavior thuggish and classless. He should not have punched the guy, but players should not drop passes, or commit stupid penalties. People are adding some moral element to punching a guy.

two games if the video evidence shows you were punched first. Instigators must be stopped. Instigators are the true classless ones.

game time nor do any of the others you said were "breaking the rules to".
it was a boneheaded analogy & play. i don't care that he punched him, i care he lost his cool when stressed which cost his team with an ejection.
he plays in a game that if you want your pound of flesh you can do so within the rules; go get some anytime, all the time.
you can't get that pound sitting on the sideline.

You missed the point I was making with my analogy.

My analogy was intended to criticize the moral outrage that many on this message board displayed over the punch.
Words like "classless" and "thug" have no place in this discussion.
Your wording seems to suggest you think I want him to get thrown out of another game. I've stated quite clearly that I think his actions were a mistake and he should be punished. I just take comfort knowing he's mean.

Well, who are you to make the rules for the rest of us. Punching that guy WAS a "thuggish" thing to do on national television - an embarassment. If a coot player did the same thing to a Tiger player, what would that be called? I am sure Battle is a good man and a valuable member of the Tiger team. I am also sure that no other Tiger player will do something like that for the rest of the season.

helmets at the top of the hill and when the cannon goes off, just charge the opposing team on the sideline. Don't even play a down of football, just attack. Take the helmet and just start bashing people senseless.
We shouldn't release balloons either, but instead, pterodactyls. Have them fly up and scoop people out of the stands and eat them. Maybe even set a few tigers loose and see what happens.
Also, why are we throwing around a football? Why not something a little more dangerous like a jar full of africanized honey bees?
I want more violence, blood, and mayhem...I want more football.

Please tell me so, cause last time we were there we weren't just a passively rabid fanbase, we were dominate, and by God we weren't scared to let people know.

Battle is young and will better learn to control his emotions. Dabo will tell him what you should be told: Be a man and don't let your emotions control you. The game was almost over and not in jeopardy. It doesn't matter what an opposing player does or says. Don't retaliate!!! Any pre-pubescent boy can throw a punch. You're not a winner based on the final score, and you're not a man based upon your age, gender, or physical strength. I'm not calling Battle a "thug" or degrading him. But I do think it foolish for anyone on this message board to attempt to draw a parallel between an uppercut to the face and a holding penalty, or to say that masculinity is defined by throwing punches.
"Be angry and do not sin." Look it up yourself.

This is one of the problems with the world now people twist and turn things top anyway they can spin it to make them right or a smart### p#### . And when some slaps him for doing that then he looks bad. Battle was not being smart when he did that, but everyone is human and we all make mistakes so to answer some stupid quote on here " he without sin cast the first stone" . I think more people should remember that verse before quoting any other!

This type of behavior, perhaps in a closer game could jeopardize our whole season, it goes beyond just one punch, it is how our players conduct themselves on and off the field!
I'm proud of our program, and thus, I am embarrassed by his behavior.
