Favorite player in Clemson history?

3

May 23, 2023, 10:54 PM

It really depends on when you grew up watching and loving the most.

But for me it would have to be Deshaun Watson. I understand what Trevor did, and Tajh Boyd, Woody Dantzler, and many more did. But Deshaun’s greatness was just so immense. His IQ and poise in the biggest situations was just unmatched. He knew he was the best player on the field, and still does.

I know about his recent events. But there hasn’t been anything proven against him. But regardless of that, the person he was at Clemson was an example of the perfect student athlete. Did extremely well in his classes while playing.

Some of y’all like the running backs and receivers though. There’s guys like Perry Tuttle, CJ Spiller, Jerry Butler, Sammy Watkins, etc.

"Bonnie" Banks McFadden and one of the most gracious men I've ever met.

When my boy was 8 and we were visiting the old Fike Field House which was for intramural sports now where Banks was Director, he came towards Will, got down onone knee to be on his level, asked him his name and praised him for being there and bejng a Tiger.

He played 3 ways on the FB Team too and was in 1939 Cotton Bowl (I believe).

I know most look at how well he was poised in the big moments and bringing home our NC, but I always look back to his one-legged but kicking against little USC.

He fully embraced Clemson culture and his unwillingness to let us loose to them was greatly appreciated.

Trevor Lawrence for Offense and Dexter Lawrence for defense. That 2018 Natty team could brands down beat the Georgia team this year.

Way too many to pick just one.

DW
Tie - Nuk, Sammy, Mike Williams, Renfrow
Too many DEs to list

That’s a very short list that could have been many, many more.

This poast brings up an interesting point. My personal

2

May 24, 2023, 8:34 AM

favorite player that has come through here is Christian Wilkins. His energy and gregarious personality just rubbed off on everyone. He showed real joy in playing the game, and passed that on to his teammates.

Now, as far as the player who had the biggest IMPACT on Clemson, to me that is Deshaun Watson. Torching some great Bama defenses two years in a row in the National Championship game, and completing the most famous pass in Clemson history with one second to go to win it that second time around, made him Legendary.

So, "favorite" player may or may not be the "greatest" player for some who are trying to pick one. It all depends on your mindset.

GO, TIGERS!

Christian Wilkins, The Fridge, Hunter Renfrow, Nolan Turner,

1

May 24, 2023, 8:48 AM

Homer Jordan, Dwight Clark

in that order

I like Renfrow and Turner because they were walkons that nobody really expected anything of, but they really exceeded all fan expectations.

Ben Boulware and It’s not close. He’s not even close to the most talented player on any of his teams, but he worked his butt off. He is a Clemson kid. That passion and fire was on display every game. His speech after winning the national championship is the greatest national championship speech ever. The raw emotion. Hard to put anyone over him for me.

Sammy Watkins, James Davis, CJ Spiller on offense for me, they kick started everything.

I also was partial to Charlie Whitehurst.

Defense the late and great Gaines Adams and Christian Wilkins.
