1. We need a better NIL program. We can't continue to be outbid by other schools for all the best talent.
2. I'm glad we aren't spending wildly, giving kids who haven't done anything all sorts of money and shiny new cars.
3. We'll never win another national championship if we let schools like UGA and Bama outbid us for players. We have to get a top 5 class to have a chance. And, that takes money, big money.
4. If all a kid wants is money and he's going to the highest bidder, then we don't want him.
Folks, I offer no solutions, or even suggestions on what the proper attitude should be. Just making an observation. In today's world, it's hard to be a fan.

I'm sure there's NIL deals for transfers up front similar to rewarding those in the program who are staying, provided they've proven themselves already at this level.

We are seeing the consequences of this new 'Lost Generation' in college athletics.
The last remaining purity of college football has been tainted and I don't see a scenario in which we return to it - greed ruins all things.

recruiting class along the way. 4-year class averages for those two seasons were like 12.5 and 10.5 or something close.
That might be FSU's case, but it hasn't been Clemson's or Dabo's.

Clemson University is my school and always will be. The things you list have no influence whatsoever on my fandom. It will be what it will be and my love for the University and young men and women representing it in athletic competitions will never wane.

Not tough to be a fan at all. I watch and go to as many events as i can. I dont pay attention to the portal or NLI stuff, just go to the games and cheer on the tigers. This is for enjoyment, people take things way to serious

I can't help but wonder why all the people who drone on and on about this changing reality of CFB don't just quit watching. If something bothered me this much I'd move on to something else. Grown men who have made decisions over their lifetimes based in some part on money now outraged because some 18 year old with financial options has decided to exercise those options. All this NIL stuff says far less about these 18 year olds who are taking advantage of their options than it does a bunch of middle aged men who want to live a delusion that the players who suit up for their team every Saturday "love" their school.
1. The new reality is you have to compete with NIL. If you can't or won't, you will struggle to land the best players.
2. Each program will decide how to make NIL work for them. If a team decides not to provide money up front and another school will, don't be surprised when you lose out on that recruit. Maybe teams who think this way should be consistent and apply it to scholarships. Pay nothing toward tuition until the kid produces on the field.
3. From all appearances, it's goign to take big money to compete.
4. Fair enough but you don't get to complain when he signs somewhere else.

Donors are never the subject of the griping. Its always an 18 year old who has tha audacity to factor money into his life decisions. No one accuses donors of being driven my money or lacking in integrity or character. Those terms are reserved for a high school senior or transfer who might want to make his or his family's life better.

And 2 other problems as a result of pouring this short term (for most) money into these kids:
1 - costs for us fans will continue to go up, like nfl. Ticket prices, concessions, IPTAY dues will all rise.
2 - these kids with instant fame and money will bounce around school to school and after 4 years have no degree or Plan B for life. And they’ll have a quitter mentality, I.e. when the going gets tough, just transfer. Only a fraction will go NFL.
College aka semi-pro football is ruined. I’m out and will hope the collapse comes soon and we can then return to an amateur model again.

Not saying that NIL is good for overall graduation rates etc just that the choice of an individual athlete is not simply “NIL now or degree/long career later” a lot of kids want to maximize both….which is actually a rational choice.

If that is the only reason you changed jobs, then yes it makes you undesirable. I have told many people who have hired me to do so not because I am charging more or less, but because they think I will do a better job.

Bluff you are talking about a legitimate pay for play like a salary. At least that’s what I’m picking up. I would be for a salary in some shape or form, but not sure all these posts are addressing the same thing in regards to how one gets paid. Let the NCAA pay the athletes and on top of that a percentage of the items they sign or have their name or picture on. Cut all this other NIL guise BS out. All this money should be reported as common knowledge as well.
A couple of different ways players are being paid. There is no fair market value or competitive fairness for under the table deals to the highest bidder.

NIL is legitimate. Completely legal. Illegal for a third party to interfere with it or restrict it.
People get to maximize their value and earnings in any legal way they wish.
There are no under the table deals now.
It's all in the open. With the recent courts decisions and enforcement of the Sherman Antitrust Act, it's just business negotiations now.

I don't even know why schools should be involved in NIL. If a kid wants to go to a college and excel in any endeavor, academics, soccer, rowing, football, etc. and an individual or company wants to pay them to use their name image or likeness, then let them negotiate as an individual ...... just like kids that get summer jobs. Why does the school have to be involved. If the NIL deal takes away too much study time, or practice time, then the coach can dismiss them from the team and find others that want to be there for the sport. Quite frankly, what business is it of the school what I do to legitimately earn money from my NIL?

Actually it’s very easy to be a FAN. Clemson has thousands and thousands of them! The difficulty is getting those “avid” fans to contribute to the programs. If you can’t give the athletic department at least a hundred bucks a year to help MY team remain at the top … you are a fans …. And that is all! And not a very good one!

like you and me. FFS, your starting QB was The starter at Clemson, then Oregon State now FSU. It’s madness, year to year the roster changes so much it’s hard to be a fan when you don’t know who is on your team. I’ll still watch, I’ll still root for Clemson but I gave up my season tickets of 20+ years this year. I’m done contributing to something I don’t agree with. It’s madness.

The crowd that says, "cfb is as popular as it's ever been" aren't wrong. But, they are also not looking down the road.
CFB became as big as it did b/c of the avid fan who couldn't get enough of it. Not just on tnet; but other teams forums as well and National media forums you hear a lot of the same things. I.E. this isn't a "Clemson problem or Clemson fan base problem or position".
This is "working now" but this train will run our of track down the line.
I will always support Clemson: with my support and when I can with my $$$$. It's just the fact; people love the "sport".
What is sport to you? What does it mean?
If in your definition it has anything to do with "fair competition" then what is happening now isn't it. Only the deep pocket few really have a chance; with the Transfer Portal in place the way it is currently governed.
I don't have an issue with NIL. The Transfer Portal on the other hand - needs to go back to where a player sits a year. If a kid really wants to leave; let them leave by all means. But, the donor/booster/coach/school shouldn't get instant gratification for cherry picking another schools student. The Tampering more than anything is the real issue to me.
Players have always gotten paid. It was just under the table the last couple decades. Prior to that; the athlete that had a job of turning on the automatic sprinklers and getting paid 400K was the norm. Maybe not that much; but good money at the time.
Fix the tampering and don't allow the instant gratification of playing immediately and I would be good with it as a whole. As far as being a fan of Clemson and a supporting: "Until the Casket Drops on Earth and beyond" I will be a fan, period.

Yep totally agree. Least excited I have ever been for college football, and for those that know me knows that’s really hard to believe.
Going to be a small percentage in the grand scheme of things that will end up being competitive in the end. No rules or caps makes fairness impossible. Big alums with deep pockets will win most of the time. Unfortunate

I am not paying for some 18-year-old to drive a far better car than I have or have a bigger bank account than I have just to play football. I have to earn everything that I have so they can do it as well. If that makes me a dinosaur then so be it.
