Expanding the CFP Helps the SEC..Keep it at 4!

The SEC is counting on a 12 team CFP because it knows 5-6 teams would probably get in every year. I'm guessing Oklahoma and Texas considered that as part of the decision to leave the Big 12.
I wonder if "The Alliance" is trying to keep the SEC in check?
Keeping the CFP it 4-6 teams doesn't help the SEC's takeover of college football.

a 12 team play-off would result in 2 SEC teams being in the playoffs this season.
If anything 12 team playoff will benefit the BIG10 more than any other conference. They have the habit of cannibalizing themselves at the end of every season.

Over looked ole miss. Which brings them to the same total as BIG10 and on more than BIG12. Seems pretty balanced to me?
The ACC doesn't have teams in the CFP because none of them are worthy - doesn't have anything to do with SEC bias.

We could always claim ND's half membership and say "well they were in the ACC for one football season" lol.

I'm OK expanding it to 8 but with some limits...
Dec 2, 2021, 8:15 AM

1 - Power five conference champions are automatic qualifiers provided the Champion has no more than two losses (sorry PAC 12).
2 - The remaining three spaces are at-large spaces filled by the CFP to potentially include Notre Dame and/or a GO5 conference team
3 - No more than two teams from any one conference.

I don't disagree with your assessment...

but I'm guessing the CFP might.
Hopefully BK leaving sends a clear message to the BeeBee Heads that they need to join a conference in order to enhance their chances of winning a national championship.
Apparently BK liked his chances better at LSU than he did with the Domers.

Don't be surprised if a 2-loss Bama gets the nod over Cincy
Dec 2, 2021, 8:22 AM

CFP committee is in lock step with the SEC ...
There will be an "outcry" for expansion if Cincy is left out ...
That's what they are counting on.

While ESecPN will be campaigning for a 2-loss Bama...

to still get in, a loss to Georgia on Saturday eliminates Bama and it should. Frankly, the CFP having Bama at No. 3 after last weekend is an absolute joke. Apparently the whole "style points" argument is applicable to everyone but Bama.
I still maintain that UGa tanks on purpose and takes one for the league so the $EC gets to teams in the CFP.

All they care about is more money being pulled

into the athletic departments of the P5 and G5 schools.
Expansion means more money.
They are negotiating to figure out which schools will get the most money after the expansion.
Any changes before 2025 require unanimous consent of the P5 and G5 (plus Notre Dame).
After the current contract expires in 2025 the P5 (or what is left of it) can expand without input from the G5 (or Notre Dame).

The whole point is to get subjectivity out of it as much as possible. Barring total conference realignments and affiliations structured just for a playoff, which would probably never happen, the simple solution would be this: The playoff would consist of the 10 Div 1 conference champions, and 2 other teams that could be chosen by a committee, with preference given to division champs. Limit two teams from any one conference. Want to make the playoff? Win your conference. Don't like it because your team didn't win the conference, but you think your team is better than some teams that did win theirs and got in ahead of you? STF up and do better next year. Done.
Sure, you'd get a stinker every now and then that would get boat raced by an Alabama/Clemson/Ohio State, but deserving teams from recent years like Cincinatti, Coastal Carolina, Louisiana, Boise St., App St., etc, would also get their shot, while Money and the Media would not be able to pack the playoff with their favorites. It would finally be more about merit and integrity, and not money and hype.

I have been saying keep it at 4 since the beginning. Its not going to happen.. they are going to expand.. but the whole point of the playoff was that sometimes, you werent sure you got the right team ranked #2.. sometimes the #3 team was just as deserving. So by adding #3 & 4... you were sure you got two worthy teams in the NCG. No one ever thought "Yeah what about #11... they could beat #1 or #2!"
4 is the best way to go. We are just going to have a ton of nonsense.. a ton of blowouts and making the playoff is going to get tremendously watered down.
We have 2016-2021 CFP logos posted on the inside of our stadium. That is a big deal.
Now the team that finished 12th is going to get to do that?
12th????
