after so many years as the Clemson basketball coach. I see a lot of posters on this site who are frustrated by this fact and try to change the perception, but the fact remains.
Why is that?

Probably has a lot to do with years and years of not really being very engaged with the student body and rallying their support, in addition to the very tepid and hit or miss performance the team has produced up to these past few seasons. Losing postseason NIT games at home as a high seed to Nobody U, being very much on the wrong side of one-possession heartbreakers so consistently, the inability to remain in the national rankings once we get there, perennial ACCT failures - these add up and ultimately serve as a foundation.
I know it was a later game last night but really surprised at the low turnout that it looked to be on the broadcast. For the season we're having and having rival Tech in the house, that was disappointing.

Just my take but I think folks are just tired of basically the same thing every year and there doesn't seem to be a desire to elevate the program.
Yes there is the outlier here or there, which seemingly happens when his seat is the hottest. But overall its Groundhog Day.
Apathy has set in because the AD/Prez seem to be OK with an average coach and no titles for almost 2 decades.
The conference is as bad as its ever been and this is our best shot to win it, even after last night. Now lets see if CBB can get us there.

And I believe they said he was a sophomore? He looked like Kobe against us. He was on a whole ‘nother level. If he wanted to make a basket, he did. Tech basically played the same 5 guys the entire game. Out-rebounded us I’m sure (too lazy to look at the stats). To be ice cold in our own gym is extremely disheartening.

Do not confuse posters on a "fan" website for members of the fan base. People on this site expect us to win every game, match, meet or whatever the sport has. The focus of displeasure is any coach that the so called fans deem the scapegoat for a loss. Since Goodwin is gone, Brad will be back on the block and Coach Bakich and or his pitching coach can't be far behind. Everyone wants to win, hurts when we lose (like last night) but the fan base understands winning is never easy.

Brad is on the block independent of other coaches. His record speaks for itself. Fans have the ability to have an opinion on multiple coaches at the same time.

IT IS NOT FAIR TO SAY. THERE IS A SMALL YET VOCAL GROUP OF IDIOTS THAT DO NOT LIKE HIM. AND SOME OF THOSE IDIOTS ARE JUST TROLLS AND WALMART BANDWAGONERS THAT ARE ONLY "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY". WELL IN THIS CASE THE ELITE 8 WOULD BE SOMETHING TO LOOK AT AND BE PROUD OF FOR ANYONE WITH A PEA FOR A BRAIN.

People are idiots because they don't wipe away 14yrs of overall mediocrity because we won 3 tourney games last year? That was the exception to the Brownell rule
How many times in 14yrs have we won more than 1 game in the ACC Tourney?

I'd never realized the ACC was a level playing field until now. Every coach has access to any recruit he wants. CBB's fault we don't have a couple of nattys. With all the McDonald's AAs and 5 stars we've had, it's inexcusable!
We have two alums in the NBA and you have to look on the right side of the decimal for their PPG.
Did Cooper Flagg come to Duke because of Jon Scheyer?

Why can't we have higher expectations than a sub .600 record, ZERO regular season titles, ZERO ACCT titles, ZERO ACCT runner ups and 1 NIT title?

Newsflash, the buck stops with the HC. We arent talking about year 3 or 4 and him needing more time. Kids attending clemson were roughly between Pre-K and 2nd grade when he was hired. He has had plenty of time.

Nobody that is great is coming to Clemson. Who is the best player CU has ever had? Guarantee you he wasn't on ANYBODY'S recruiting hot list.That could change someday like it did for Duke with coach K.
Our basketball program is what Vandy is to football. Never won a conference title. Maybe never will.
I went to the 2023 football game at Duke. Before the game they were giving tours of Carmichael Indoor. 80% of the people in line were wearing orange. Do we have tours of Littlejohn where folks can gawk at dozens of trophies?

Sorry but putting down our players is a pretty lousy tack to take here. I've seen that a lot from the Brown L brigade over the years and it's A) very disrespectful to our student athletes and B) simply false. Brownell's recruiting class average, though not world beating, has been averaging around 40th or so over any four-year period going back to the LJ renovation at minimum, not to mention the very highly touted portal players that are supposedly always upgrades over who is leaving. So please explain how Brad manages a season-ending NET rank averaging in the 70's, with recruiting classes in the 40's and annual portal upgrades? He has consistently had the talent to produce better results.

I'll begin by saying I am a Brownell fan. He is a good man that runs a clean program and wins his share. But against GT there were some brain dead coaching moves at the end of regulation and all three OT's. In regulation, with a few seconds left and the score tied, he takes out arguably the best pure shooter on the team, Heidbreder, and puts in the worst shooter, Baby Hunter. Guess who gets the wide open corner 3 at the buzzer and misses? In each of the OT's Clemson has a final shot to win or tie and there is no offensive set. Zero, Zip. Nada. Just let your best player go one on 5 and throw up a last second prayer that had little chance. Sorry......I don't get it?

No matter what you thought of him, his coaching style, and his knowledge of the game, the results simply weren't good enough. We'd made 3 NCAA tournaments in 13 seasons, and we'd only made it past the Round of 64 one time.
Last year's Elite 8 run, in my eyes, gave him at least 5 more years. Even this year, the team is still doing extremely well. You can't control how good your schedule is, but we're 18-5 and 10-2 in the conference.
If I had one gripe with Brownell, it seems, overall, we struggle at the end of games. This has been an issue this year, and it was an issue going all the way back to the beginning.
I remember 2013-14, we were home against Pitt in the last game of the season. It was widely regarded as a must-win for our NCAA chances. We made 2 FTs with 13 seconds left to go up 5. Somehow, Pitt goes down, and they even miss the 3. They get the rebound, though, and hit a 3 with 3 seconds left. We then turn it over, and they make a 2 at the buzzer. We go on to lose in OT, and our NCAA chances evaporate.
Brownell is a great basketball mind, but it seems, at least to me, that we choke more often than not down the stretch of games.

Shack and Allowat love to respost my line last year that Brownell should quit while he’s ahead because the blow back was going to incredible. What you’re describing is what I was alluding to. Barring a complete shift in the magnitude of the program - NCAAs nearly every year and returns to the Elite 8 or better every few years the attitude is going to get poisonous. And when your coach becomes the longest tenured and best paid in your conference you have every right to expect that team to dominate the conference and perform equal to or better than the conference rivals in the postseason.

Mostly agree. People would still be critical, but less constant about. And it’s not just JK. He/she have a few acolytes that add to it. CBB is like the basketball team’s history: good but not great. If that’s all we want, he’s our coach.

Only excuses.
We all want Clemson to win.
We gave him more than a shot.
Just because the ACC is horrible, does not make him better coach.
This is a good team for sure, but it is time for another coach to give them a shot.

Brad has gotten us to an elite eight and sweet 16 recently. Not sure how you couldn’t like him. We’ve only lost 5 games and I believe 4 of them were on overtime. People are never satisfied.
This is the best Clemson basketball has been in my 35 years of life.

If you go by SRS, which is one of the most objective ways to rank teams against prior years, this team would rank 8th as of today. Brad has one team in the top 5. In 4 seasons, starting from zilch, Rick Barnes had two of the top four. There are better coaches and they will come to Clemson. And Clemson now has the money to keep them rather than flushing it down this hole.
