Here is the way I see it

Dabo's first year as head coach, we did have all of Tommy's players, but we backed our way into the Atlantic title.
Year two we still had a large amount of Tommy's talent.
Year three we played with mostly Dabo's recruits and went out and took what was ours. We didn't back into the Atlantic and we went out and mauled VT in the Championship game.
Is Dabo underrated or overrated? From what I have seen, I would say underrated. For TB to imply we just handed over the keys in that article is insane. He has a hard time dealing with the fact that Dabo has put together a fantastic staff and is getting good results in just 3 years. Dabo fought hard to get the support he needed and money put up to hire who he wanted. He recruits at a high level consistently.
Dabo is a good head coach.

The only problem is in year 3 nobody in the ACC finished in the top 20. Has that ever happened before?

VT is typically the only ACC to finish in the top 20. Last year they finished with the same record they typically do but did not crack it. I guess it was more of a perception thing?

They did however lose to the three best teams they played.

I agree Dabo is a good head coach.

A gentleman and his moral behavior is fitting for anyone to appreciate perhaps envy.
He must win and win and win to be proclaimed a great head coach. It's not an option. He has the players, assistants and backing. I don't want a good HC I want a great HC. Clemson deserves the best. I'm pulling for Dabo and Clemson all the way!
Go Tigers, stomp a greasy spot out of everybody's butt this year!

It does. The last 20 or so years of Clemson football was...

like walking in the desert. The Conference title was a cool refreshing drink of water contaminated with sand from the GT, USuCk and WV losses. That kinda crap has to stop.

Dabo won the division with Tommy's players. Tommy did not.
THEN.....Dabo won the ACC with HIS players. Tommy did not.

I understand we did not have a team crack the final top 20 but we did have 2 teams make BCS bowls and 3 teams finish in the top 25. I think we were just a competitive conference - no really dominate teams.

I'm not sold on Manuel and Logan yet. But I'd agree, the ACC is better this year than last.

he (Dabo) is one helluva recruiter. Everyone always talked about how talented we were under Bowden (and you could argue that was b/c of Dabo) but it seems we have gone into the stratosphere lately under Dabo/Scott and crew, and only going up.

Is there any chance we'll acknowledge that the ACC was better, as a whole, during Bowden's tenure than during Dabo's thusfar?
I love Dabo. But you have to throw that in if you want to have a legitimate football argument.
UNC, NC State, Miami, Boston College, Maryland were all better during Bowden's tenure. The rest of the teams are pretty much the same now.

Miami hasn't been a powerhouse

since joining the ACC.
I don't think they have ever won the conference! Granted BC was better, Maryland is status Quo, and I would say NCST has been about the same year in and year out.

I was basing that statement on the triple over time game in DV back in 2004.....

that they were a better team then, just the term powerhouse caught me off guard.
They matched up well with us and vice versa.
That's all.

underrated by who/whom? his peers and the experts named him

national coach of the year.
he has put together a staff rich in talent and/or experience. mccorvey, pearman, brooks, cheese, caldwell, hobby. he hired 2 coordinators that uprooted their families to come half way across the country to work with him.
i'm not sure he's underrated in the circle that matters.
