The Line if Watson were starting
Sep 15, 2014, 12:42 PM
|
|
would be FSU by 7 (best guess)
If you look at a lot of the articles that have already been written on this week's game - noting keys to beating FSU - you are much more likely find D Watson's (even as a sub) name listed as a key (Example: ESPN's article today on 3 Keys to beat FSU).
Football Media seems to have a good idea what kind of weapon we have bottled up on the sideline for 75% of the game. I suspect Vegas does too.
The absolute greatest strategic coup that Dabo and The Chad could ever pull off is to trot Watson out to start the game - unannounced- but that is - unfortunately - not gonna happen.

Yeah. That sounds about right...

Ok - Let's say Cole and Stoudt Play for Louisville

and Louisville comes into the Valley this year. Who would you prefer to see under center for the Cards - as a Clemson fan - Stoudt or Watson?
Or let's try this another way - if you know any FSU fans who have kept up with CU this year - ask them this week - who would they rather see under center for all 4 qtrs?

Typically - I would disagree with my own thinking on this.
I have seen enough of Cole this year to know what we are getting with him. I don't want to run him down - but if you know football - you know his weaknesses and I suspect Vegas calculated that into the larger than expected spread.
I have also seen the same things from Watson. I am saying that even as a true freshman - even with command of 50% of the playbook - with his athleticism and running skills and arm strength/accuracy - he gives us a much better chance.
Watson has the same "it factor" that Winston came in with last year as a RS Freshman.
If you happen to run into a knowledagble FSU fan before the game - ask them who they would rather play against

Guessing more like FSU by 27
Sep 15, 2014, 1:04 PM
|
|
The people who make the line are not Clemson fans. They don't have some sort of "special knowledge" about a freshman QB who's never started a game and who's thrown less than 20 passes. So they're certainly not going to give us more points because we started a guy they don't know anything about on the road.

QB coming out of high school. All this off season ESPN talked about him when covering us for the upcoming season. And yes Vegas makes there lines of their knowledge of the teams playing.

Yep!
That's it alright! Folks have seen DW play a handful of snaps (albeit perfoing very well) and suddenly EVERYBODY OUT THERE thinks they know more.....
Than Clemsons COACHING STAFF!!!!
I want to see DW play as much as the next fan, but people, PLEASE trust that the coaches KNOW what they are doing!
Things to consider:
1. Those of you who think this is about Senior "loyalty" - are idiots! Coaches get paid to win games. They are going to PLAY, for whatever reason who they see fit (knowing more than we do) in a given situation.
2. DW is a PERSONAL recruit of Chad Morris!! Hello?? Anyone home?? No one wants to see DW take the field more than Morris! He invested ALOT of time in getting this hand picked young man to Clemson.
3. Maybe....jusssst maybe the coaches have created this "controversy" to the teams advantage?!? Imagine that!
Let the whole "but in the Ga game " thing go!! It's done!!
Give Cole a chance to lead us against FSU!! The minute things start going South, I think the coaches have it covered!!! SMH!!
Go Tigers!!!!

here is why Cole is likely starting
Sep 15, 2014, 1:20 PM
|
|
The fear of starting D Watson too soon. Don't want to get him hurt or shake his confidence etc. It does not mean that Cole is a better qb as they likely can see what the average fan can see - Cole is serviceable and D Watson is elite.
It's more likely that they are being overly conservative and are willing to risk losing big games in the present by bringing along Watson slowing vs. being known as the coaches that ruined D Watson's career due to a freak injury or mental setback.

That we have DJ Howard listed as our starting RB again. Seems like by now there would be a valid argument or either some amazing statistics would have emerged justifying this. 2 yards a carry isn't getting it done

Not sure why we don't just put another OL in there if we aren't passing to the TE's anyway.
Worked great on XBOX and I read a similar strategy on TCI last week, so I'm a STONE COLD EXPERT.

like I said in a earlier post, not a good strategy. Start Cole, if he blows it, bring in Watson to save the day (and hope he can do it).

Reality- we are 20 point dogs to FSU. Stop trying to justify it or downplay it with a "we are playing the wrong qb" crutch.
Vegas knows these things: 1. We lost 95% of our offense 2. FSU hammered us at home last year 3. We struggled at UGA 4. FSU better than UGA 5. FSU returns most of their team
If the line were 28 I wouldn't be surprised. From the outside ( and inside) the deck is stacked so heavily against us. Will take our A+ game just to have a chance in the 4th quarter.

What would change the line IS a line. . .an offensive line. If we got one of those, we'd be in pretty good shape. Without one, Cam Newton couldn't do much.
