They can use it as motivation all they want, it's not going to fix JT Barett's inaccuracy in 4 days.
Players jab back and forth on the football field all game long. It magically doesn't fix their weaknesses.
If you need to motivated by what your opppient says about you, your team has issues.

That may be true ...but you don't want to give your opponent anymore motivation or fire than he already has coming into a game. Also, if it didn't work coaches wouldn't use it. The great Coach Danny Ford who led us to our only National Championship ,...said ...you do your talking on the field..with your play. He never let his players shoot off their mouth before a game. I remember another Bowl game against Cal where our defense made comments , Chester McGlocton for one ...and we ended up getting our A** kicked ...bad.

Johnson said nothing awful about their QB, he said he was a good QB, but he thought that his best ability was on his legs. If they can get juiced up over that comment they really must feel to be inferior competition to us if they need to hear a comment like that to gas them up bc, it has been said many times that if teams can stop DW4 by keeping him caroled in the pocket, that it would give them a better chance of beating us. And it is true that all teams feel if they can shut DW4's running game down, that they can beat us. The problem has always been that they haven't yet shut DW4 down by locking him in the pocket!!!

I couldn't agree with you more but I would like to add that if a team isn't already as fired up as they can be to play in a semifinal of the National Championship, there is something bad wrong. Dabo made a comment in one of the media meetings, when asked about motivating our players, that he doesn't and shouldn't have to motivate them for a game like this.

The truth hurts sometimes. And this far along, if an innocuous statement like the one Jadar made yesterday is what you're using as motivation for your team - you're already in questionable position 3 days away from facing the Clemson Tigers.

Nothing wrong with Jadar's comment, and I think that the Ohio State players responded with class. Both of these programs have exceptionally strong leadership both in terms of great coaching and Upperclassemen on the field. Saturday is going to be a true clash of titans. Go Tigers!

They responded the way they should have. A challenge was made, and they feel obligated to try to make it into something they can use as motivation. In reality, it won't help them contain DW4, and it won't make their guy better than he really is. Both are gifted athletes, great leaders and both respond to the challenge at hand. I think DW4 has more skills and a better supporting cast around him. We will know on Saturday, though. Strap it on and play the game. Then we see who's really who.

Well, most of the country agreed that LJ was better than DW4, the QB that beat LJ on the field. The same QB that had one questionable loss on the season, and he was told that he wasn't as good as the QB that was handed the Heisman trophy with a 9-3 season with losses to a 11-1, 9-4, and a 7-4 team. Talking about motivation to fire up a DeShaun Watson. If I was a OSU player, I would keep my mouth shut about Clemson also. Now if I was the OSU HC, I would use and nit pick at any and everything I could to juice my team up regardless of how pisss poor it was, I would use it and twist the facts about it as much as I could!!! Meyer and his team really don't want any part of DW4 after the wrong that was done concerning the Heisman Trophy....

We are in violent agreement! You are a wise man, and we agree, so I think that makes me one, too. I believe we will win this game, if we play our game and let them play theirs. Hopefully, we don't even let them play what they think is theirs, but instead, impose our will on them. I just hope DW4 has taken this on as a smear on him and his family. We will like the consequences, if he did.

and I feel like once you get past their defensive linemen it’s up to us to make plays,” Ohio State running back Mike Weber said. “I think defensive line is really the heart and soul of the team,” Weber said. “They put the team on their back, and if we control their defensive line it could be a big game for us.”
Looks like they don't think much of our linebackers and back seven.

I hope you are right ...but I don't think so . We are going to have to hang with them because we have a tendency to give up BIG PLAYS on defense and we don't put good teams away . I see this game like the last one with them ...45-40 or similar ..and going down to the wire . But ,...they have a much better secondary this time around ....so we can't afford any lulls with 3 and outs.

IMO, I believe that DW4 is going to go out there and burn OSU's defense down to the ground. He will not go out by laying down to any defense with the way he was disrespected by the Heisman voters that gave the Heisman to the QB he beat on the field, and to the QB that loss 3 games on the season with one of them being a 7-4 home rival team. I expect DW4 to blaze the entire game, and if Dabo wants to pull him out, he will throw a fit!!!

You know he is the best QB you have faced. It's okay to admit it. He's won the awards to prove he's earned that kind of accolade, and there are 2 more that he should have won, and that is the last 2 Heisman Trophies.

Since when is the truth stupid? Jadar didn't say anything disrespectful and was, in fact, complimentary and respectful. There is nothing in what he said that should be taken as "bulletin board material." This has been blown completely out of proportion. If Urban Meyers feels like he needs to use something as innocuous as this to motivate his team for a National Championship semifinal, then he must be extremely worried!

material really won't serve as motivation.
For all those times that WE as Clemson fans have grabbed "disrespectful nuggets" and claimed them as bulletin board material for our players, claiming some sort of payback attitude, how can we dismiss any bb material our own player may offer to the opposing team?
Does it always result in a loss to the team that does the trash talking? No, but even our own players before have cited bb material quotes in their postgame comments when talking about why they just beat the opponent with such motivated play.
It can't go both ways.
I recall a time or two when one of our players provided bb material...and the Tigers ultimately backed it up. I also recall, on at least one occasion, the expressed sentiment that the team sure was glad they did...and the one who provided the bb material took his speech down several notches after that. He was relieved for the win, too.
Ohio State is not SCAR. We could have provided SCAR bb material for each locker and still won. But Ohio State is far too talented to give them ANY potential advantage.
I am praying that all players stay healthy and that the Tigers play their very best and smartest football (and will be victorious, of course!).

what is wrong with what Jadar said? JT is not gonna be a 1st round pick. I dont even think he will be drafted whenever he is eligible.
We have better QBs in ACC. outside of Watson, Lamar, Mitch, Evans and Kaya. JT wont even be the 5th best QB in ACC.
If OSU needs the truth to be a motivation, it can help for 3 plays and then talent and skill will take over.
The only way we can lose is if our secondary has meltdowns like we did against FSU.

can make Barrett a better QB. If he has a great game it won't be because Johnson said that. If Johnson stating the simple truth somehow pushes OSU through the entire four quarters and on to victory, then we weren't the better team anyway. In my opinion, the comments about our back seven were much more inflammatory and incites the bulk of the entire defense.

experience numerous hurries and other hits. There won't be much time for pass success.
So, the Buckeroos need the extra motivation. Let's see how deep into the 4th. Quarter he makes it before needing to be helped off the field.

I love all this supreme confidence and I hope it comes true Saturday night . However, I seem to remember how well a QB named Evans ran against us in the ACCCG and JT Barrett is a much more explosive running QB than Evans. JT BARRETT has led his team to a lot of victories and into the playoff ....and we haven't stopped running QBs that well in most games , Auburn being the exception , ...so let us hope we CAN CONTAIN HIM because other teams have struggled to do so.

(3) Lamar Jackson, (13) Deondre Francois, (20) Jerod Evans, (24) Justin Thomas, and (33) Sean White all had a better total QBR than (39) J.T. Barrett. Ryan Finley was right behind him at (43).
Look at it this way - would you rather be facing Lamar Jackson or Deondre Francois under center at OSU... or JT Barrett? Heck, we couldn't tackle Jerod Evans, so I don't wanna see that dude under center with OSU's talent. Barrett is a good QB, but he's not the best we've faced.

Urban Meyer doesn't know what he is doing.
Dec 29, 2016, 6:28 AM
|

Some of our fans that think bulletin board material doesn't ever matter know so much more than Urban Meyer. Moreover, they know more than just about every coach whoever coached who also loved getting bulletin board material for their team as motivation, and did not like their players to give bulletin board material to the opposition. Urban Meyer is clueless. I will go with the arm chair QB's every day. On a serious note, I don't think t will make a difference in this game, but there is never a reason to give your opponent bulletin board material and to fire them up any more. I would prefer Ohio State would give us some bulletin board material. I prefer we play with a chip on our shoulders like we did last year vs Bama and not like how we did vs NCSU this year when we were flat.
