ESPN: Teams Trending Down post NSD.

Feb 10, 2015, 2:54 PM

Its ESPN Insider, but #2 on the top 10 list is USuC. Can't say I'm surprised, but heres what they had to say about their current situation. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/travis-haney/post/_/id/4141/teams-trending-down-post-signing-day?refresh=true

2. South Carolina
Coach Steve Spurrier strongly considered retirement late last season. Even if he reversed course and said he’s on board for another four or five seasons, that waffling did some damage.

The staff is nervous about the future, to the point that many of Spurrier’s assistants looked around for other jobs during the past couple of months. If Spurrier isn’t certain what his timetable is, they do not want to get caught off guard. That breeds an unstable environment in which to work.

Perhaps part of that: The Gamecocks finished with a full recruiting class, but they lost nine commitments along the way -- including several four-star prospects.

The overall talent level is well below where it was when the team recently won 11 games in three consecutive seasons. So Spurrier and his staff had better be game to develop players if the Gamecocks are going to be competitive in the SEC East.

And if that doesn’t happen, how much suffering would it take for Spurrier to hang it up? Not all that much, even Spurrier’s friends suspect.

Interesting enough the top 2 were the last 2 teams we beat, almost like putting them in their grave.

Yeah I'd agree with that as well, since that 23-3 beat down in their place they haven't been the same. If memory serves me right their only losses that year were to us twice.

And Michigan in the BCS bowl game.

Indiana, Vandy, and Iowa St were never any good in the first place.

Well Vandy did have back to back 9 win seasons before last year(While Franklin was there). But yeah Indi and Iowa St have had 4-6 win seasons mostly over recent years.

Best Is The Standard

what does it take to be "competetive in the SEC East"???

Feb 10, 2015, 3:17 PM

judging by the recent success at programs such as Florida, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky and usuck, a 2* and 3* laden class should do fine....
