Enjoy CFB while you can lads

Aug 5, 2015, 1:53 PM

I doubt most of us on Tnet will care too much for it in about 5 years, maybe 10 at most.

There was always an innocence and pureness to CFB that attracted most of us, versus the NFL.

Not long from now, you'll be struggling to pay your student's tuition while watching middling athletes bring down starting engineer money. Your student won't be able to relate to the players. You won't be able to afford your tickets, nor with your Coot brother-in-law. Thanks Ed O'bannon. Thanks greedy coaches.

My golf bag is calling.

I hear what you are saying but I hope most people will speak out to keep CFB as it is now.

Call him what you want, there's a frighteningly good chance he's spot on with that analysis...sadly.

It is what it is

Too much money being made, paid to the coaches and administrators (lets be honest, do college football coaches really deserve that much money compared to a star athlete like a Sammy Watkins?), way too much TV money coming in due to its popularity, way too much subsidizing of non revenue sports being covered by major college football.

Its turned into a convoluted mess due to the money. That's our fault as fans, we like it so much there is just too much money now floating around not to have some more end up with the players.

There is no other equivalent in the world to major American collegiate sports. Its really a bizzare arrangement to mix the education purposes of a university with a massive professional sports operation.

I think it would be all be better if football was outside of the NCAA, schools sponsored teams that were affiliated with the university but not part of the university as far as the players (unless they wanted to be), they got some money and more basic education where needed (not everyone majoring in sociology to get by because there weren't ready for college-a real education even if it was more remedial), etc.

Anyway that's my take, and I'm one of the guilty ones who loves college football, even though I realize its a bizarre thing for a university to be involved in in its current professional level state.

I hope we're wrong but that's the way I'm starting to

feel too. As the money grows, so does the chance for scandals, abuse and such. And you're right, let the players major in something that could really help them. I'm not sure I'm for no NCAA type ruling body though.

What was Clemson b/4 football arrived? Probably boring & military.
