End of a generation (Personal)

Jul 5, 2022, 9:37 AM

Sorry if this is the wrong bored.

My family lost the last of my parent’s generation this weekend. My uncle (Daddy’s ’s brother) passed away Saturday morning and my aunt (his wife) passed away this morning. My uncle was the last living sibling of either of my parents.

They were married for 70 years so it’s only fitting they went out together. He wasn’t a Clemson fan. He wasn’t a football fan at all. He was born in 1929 and raised in a very poor, rural part of south GA through the Depression and WWII. He and my dad went into the service then went to work like so many others did back then and never went to college. He retired from the Coast Guard and then started and maintained a successful carpet and floor covering business in Charleston which he retired from and passed on to his son and daughter-in-law who ran it until he retired about a year ago at which time the business closed. My aunt was right there with him every step of the way.

If I could write a ###### for the rest of my life it would follow his very closely.

Rest In Peace UB and AG. Now you and Daddy can go fishing together again. If it’s possible, Heaven just got even better this weekend.

Sorry for your loss. This story is more common in that generation. Work hard to achieve a better life for their children than they had. My parents were born around the same years and stayed together for sixty four years until my Dad passed from cancer. Mom is still hanging in 93 years old . I hope longevity is in our genes.

Sounds a lot like my family- my mother just turned 94and is the last of a dozen siblings. She had 2 brothers who served in different branches of the military in WWII who lived into their 80s & died one day apart. They happened to meet by chance on a Pacific island during the war
