I know you love basketball and tolerate football but your response smacks of someone who has "had his feelings hurt" because most folks like football better. I'd like to see Clemson do well in everything. As for this story, I'd listen to someone like Herbstreit or Brett McMurphy or a few other folks that seem to know what they are talking about. Keyshawn, Finebaum, Fowler and several others are not in that camp as far as I'm concerned. If I had known the "NFL Star" was Keyshawn I wouldn't have clicked. I don't see why Finebaum is on here so much, he'll change his "opinion" on something next week if it suits his fans.

What I don’t love are overly sensitive Clemson football fans. Who cares if someone doesn’t think our team will win it all this year? Who cares if someone doesn’t think Dabo is the best coach? Everything doesn’t have to be some personal insult that causes anger and hatred toward whomever said it.
We should be very proud of what we have, as our football program is a model worth emulating. However, along with that should be the realization that our program/coaches/players aren’t perfect nor should everyone else think that they are.
I’m fine with our fans liking football more than basketball. I would never expect otherwise, but the excessive homerism when it comes to Clemson football borders on obsession for some. I personally don’t think that’s healthy.

Pollyanna wanna cracker? For real overtly sensitive. We are called fans right? And I'm a bigger Clemson basketball fan in my pinky than u r in ur whole life. U really believe the stuff u say and thats cool bro. But Clemson fans taking up for their team is real. We have serious big boy recruiting, preseason top 4 coaches early. Ranked top 7 recruiting by everyone. And the list goes on. So yeah we are allowed to merit some animosity to anyone tom Harry #### that takes a squat on the team. But don't u worry, I heard Brownell pulled in a 3 star that will shoot atleast 10 percent from the field fir the 3 games he plays his last year if eligibility.! Go in with ur crap man. He said that he doesn't think we have as much NFL talent as we have in the past. That is not an unreasonable opinion. Do you see the same caliber of talent, especially on the offensive side of the ball? Because I don't.
He talked about how hard it can be to recover from losing longtime coordinators who have contributed to that success. I don't think that's unreasonable either. We saw a drop-off after losing Jeff Scott. It's not unreasonable to think that losing Venables and Elliott might have an impact.
The reaction some people here had to Keyshawn's comments was pretty dramatic. This notion that any opinion of Clemson which is less than glowing is some personal insult, anti-Clemson agenda, or conspiracy to hurt Clemson is baffling to me.

Keyshawn made some valid points about Scott and Elliot's recruiting in South Florida. What he missed is how Clemson is now recruiting Texas, and other parts of the country. The Paw is recognized coast to coast. Nick Eason has already pulled talent from under Bama's nose. We're still getting talent out of Ohio. The sky is far from falling.
Just look how many new coaches out there, are trying to duplicate what Dabo has built.

Yes BUT, people say the weirdest chit to try and make what they're saying right. I'll say this, if anybody, and I don't care who they are, if they don't believe that that is a huge majority of Dabo/Clemson haters in and around college FB. And I will tell them that if they doubt that, just look at all the Coordinators that Saban has lost since He and Dabo have been leading the pack in college FB. You never hear these same people that have been so negative about Dabo/Clemson since Dabo started winning at a high level, they have never been negative about Saban/Bama. Even when Bama loses both coordinators in the same year, they can't wait to say that Saban/Bama will be right back in the play off the season.
Now lets look at how they have treated Kirby Smart and UGA, well it's just like they treat Saban/Bama, and Dabo/Clemson has had a better record, they have been in the playoff twice as many times as UGA/Kirby Plus, Dabo has won two National Championships against the very same team that has kept Kirby and UGA out of the playoffs, and out of the NCG. So tell me that isn't bias hate towards Dabo and his Clemson teams. Anybody that denies the bias hate for Dabo/Clemson isn't looking, and they flat out refuse to look bc they know what the truth is, and won't admit it, they would rather lie about it before actually admitting that Dabo has done a H&ll of a good job at Clemson over the past 10 years, and they will "look" for any reason to discredit him, unlike the way they do with Saban/Bama, Kirby/UGA!!!

Don’t care for the mocking of other Clemson fans by a “fan” who says, “I love Clemson football”, but continues to knock the program and others opinions of it. As others have pointed out, it is quite ironic to call other fans “overly sensitive” with “excessive homerism that borders on obsession”.

Only taking exception to the inaccuracy of Keyshawn’s comment… He points the finger directly at recruiting. We seem to be doing just fine in that category.
And look in the mirror and stop hating on Clemson fans for expecting more from the football program than the basketball program - it’s justified, unfortunately, and we all want the same level of success from both.

Successful programs lose assistants to head coach positions
Aug 11, 2022, 2:28 PM

Fact.
When Alabama loses 7 assistants and has 12 players drafted in one season, ESPN shrugs it off as a reload and automatically ranks them #1. Because Nick is really good and has a great group of coaches on the bench ready to keep momentum going.
Apparently we can't do that because...
Well, I don't know what the because is.

we didn’t do it last year.
Didn’t make the playoffs. Didn’t win our conference. Didn’t even win our division. Didn’t finish the season in the top 10.
We didn’t reload last year.
We lost 3 games last year. When is the last time Alabama did that? Answer: 2010
We finished outside the top 10 last year (14th AP, 16th Coaches). When is the last time Alabama finished outside the top 10? Answer: 2010.
So yeah, they have reason to view Alabama differently than us.

It's because bama has repeatedly proved they can lose coaches and keep on trucking. Clemson has not proved it yet, thus the doubters. Hopefully we get back to the playoff.
As far as hating Clemson...please, Clemson gets a ton of air time when they're good. No one gets airtime when they're not good. Also, it seems every fan base has a few fans who think the world is out to get them....it's just not true.
If Clemson wins every game by 30, we'll be back in the headlines.
Heck, I would doubt other teams besides bama, that have lost a lot of coaches.

This is laughably false… barring injuries, these dudes are pretty much locks to be on NFL rosters…
QB: DJ, Cade RB: Pace, Shipley, Mafah WR: Ngata, EJ, Beaux TE: Davis, Briningstool OL: McFadden, Parks, Putnam DE: XT, KJ, Mascoll, Myles DT: Davis, Ruke, Bresee, Tre LB: Simpson, Carter, Trotter Jr CB: Nate S: Mukuba
There will be a lot more. But these are the ones that we can go ahead and book.

Little iffy with the WR to be honest. Not that they aren't super talented, but I'm not sure one of them cracks the top three on any team 2011-2020.
Hopkins, Watkins, Humphries, Jaron Brown, Martavis Bryant, Charone Peake Mike Williams, Artavis Scott, Hunter Renfrow, Deon Cain, Ray-Ray McCloud Tee Higgins, Justyn Ross, Amari Rodgers, Cornell Powell
All the big names here flashed before they were Juniors or Seniors

I don't know if that is true. But, Parker chose baseball instead, which makes that point irrelevant. There's no way of knowing if he would have made it to the NFL or not.
Also, why is it hard to believe that Ngata is more talented than the other WRs we've had? He was very highly recruited. He has great size and was physically ready when he stepped on campus. National recruiting experts projected him as a future 1st round pick and compared him to Michael Thomas from the Saints. We just haven't seen him healthy. But he certainly has all the tools.

If Ngata has a healthy season, he’s getting drafted. If he doesn’t, I doubt a team takes that risk. EJ was phenomenal his freshman year. If he stays healthy too, he’s another NFL lock.

Some of us understand football more than others. We don't have to rely on stats during a COVID year to tell us who's good or not.

We should expect to win the conference this year. Even with a more difficult schedule, we should be favored in every game if we can manage to stay healthy. We will have a top 5 defense and our offense should be a lot better this year. Clemson would have gone 12-0 with a top 25 offense last year. It's not unrealistic to expect us to have a top 25 offense this year.
We should have expected to win the conference last year too. Injuries prevented that from happening. 35% of our scholarship players missed time last year. Most teams don't make a bowl game if they had that happen to them.

last year is actually evidence that recruiting has fallen off. In other words, recruiting players that end up injured is a product of poor player evaluation.
Do you share the view that last season's injuries are the result of poor player evaluation/recruiting?

That makes zero rational sense. How can a coach evaluate whether or not a player will be prone to injuries when they get to college? How can you look at a WR in high school and think "we can't take him because he's going to tear his ACL at some point"? That's just ridiculous.
I will admit that I was disappointed by the 2022 class. I believe all of us should be disappointed with that class. 2020 was ranked 3rd and 2021 was ranked 5th. The 22' class was not an elite class. Anyone who argues otherwise is wrong. Did we sign elite players that have future 1st round potential? Obviously. By all indications so far, we hit homeruns with Klubnik, Randall, Antonio, Blake Miller, Lukus, and Pride. But the class as a whole is not elite.
I desperately want to remain an elite program. And if we aren't going to utilize the transfer portal, we better sign elite recruiting classes every year. Outside of RB, I am very excited about the 23' class. Bama, UGA, and Ohio State will cover up their holes with the portal. Clemson has not shown the willingness to do so. Which means our player evaluation has to be the best in the country.

He needs you to say that we...
A) Have great talent, so he can say the coaches must have really underperformed last year, resulting in a 10-3 season. or B) Our talent level was down, so he can point to a drop off in recruiting even though we have top 10 resources, resulting in a 10-3 season.

It's hard to take someone serious if they don't account for the sheer amount of injuries that we dealt with last year. Recruiting did take a dip last year. I was very critical of the class and of Spiller's ability as a recruiter. But we also lost Venables, Elliot, and we didn't make the playoffs or win the conference (due to injuries). The 2023 class looks good as of right now. And we still have more pieces to add. I think we'll be okay.

I absolutely agree that injuries impacted our season last year.

However, injuries were not the reason why we lost to Georgia, NC State, and Pitt. We lost those games due to the talent we had not performing as well as they should’ve. You can decide if that was due to poor evaluations in recruiting, subpar player development, bad schematic approach, or simply poor player execution - or a combination of all of those.
I actually thought our coaching was the best last year in the second half of the season, which is coincidentally when injuries had really taken their toll. Finishing the season so well was a testament to our coaching. It was a great recovery from our relatively poor first half of the season, when I personally felt the coaching left a lot to be desired.
I agree that we are putting ourselves at a disadvantage by essentially not using the transfer portal. That, plus our insistence that we offer a player and wait for him to decide, is how we end up with extra scholarships that need to be urgently filled. Insert coaches’ kids, kids of college roommates, etc.

I assume you actually watched our games that year. EJ was phenomenal. Rewatch the ACC Championship game against Notre Dame. That one handed catch on the sidelines... How many college WRs make that play? Stats aren't everything. We're talking about a freshman who came in during COVID and had less preseason time to develop and go through installation. What did your eyes tell you when he was out there?

The Socratic method

is a method of hypothesis elimination, in that better hypotheses are found by steadily identifying and eliminating those that lead to contradictions.
Seems that Keyshawn does not subscribe to this method, or he would realize the contradictions in his logic that coaching turnover leads to poor play while touting Bama. Has there been a program with more turnover over the last ten years than Bama? His logic does not make sense, but I am comparing Keyshawn Johnson to a great thinker. My bad.

Based upon star ranking we have 92 stars among are projected starters. That is more than any other team in the country. Texas am 91, Ohio state 89, Georgia 88, bama 85.
It’s a ridiculous take. Clemson‘s recruiting has been completely fine. Most of his argument comes down to the fact that DJ did not play as well as most of us at hoped last year. But based off the way he played as a freshman everyone assumed he was going to be amazing. Maybe he still will be. But they act like we’re done just because of one bad year of quarterback play. It’s ridiculous. The same thing happened when Kelly Bryant played quarterback.

That’s not at all what I’m saying. He clearly stated that he doesn’t see NFL talent at all positions like he did before for Clemsons. He elaborates on that point explaining that Clemson has lost lots of its assistant coaches and says how many of these coaches were heavily involved recruiters. The clear implication is that Clemson is not as loaded with NFL talent because recruiting has slacked off. That’s clearly false. Clemson is still recruiting at a very high level.
However, I do indeed think Clemson has one of the most talented teams in the country. Top 5 at least. I think total overall defensive talent is bette right now than it may have been in some of those championship years. Obviously those front 4 were legendary, but we have some pretty amazing defensive lineman right now too. The linebackers and secondary seem more talented to me right now. Obvious proven alexandre and Mullen may outright be best but overall stable of secondary talent is good right now. The only clear back step is at WR to me. We can go back and forth on QB. We had generational talents in Watson and Lawrence. Most teams would kill to see a QB like either in decades. But we have two extremely highly rated QBs on roster right at this moment and Vizina coming in. That’s stacking talent. No team has amazing QBs year after year. Maybe DJ will surprise this year. If not maybe the new guy pops in like Watson and Lawrence did.

Though I disagree with him his reasoning is sound. Coordinators are hard to replace for most coaches not named Saban. Scott and Venables are big losses, but I think Grisham and Wes will do fine.

Makes you wonder just how hard we recruited young Keyshawn? Not hard enough to suit his famous dad?

I have seen several posts here saying that he must've said what he did about us because he's mad that we didn't recruit his son harder. Is there any basis to that?
Or does it just make some people here feel better to think that his comments weren't genuine?
Crazy thought, maybe Keyshawn isn't mad at Dabo and doesn't have a bone to pick with Clemson, and actually believes what he said this week?

Sorry guys but Keyshawn may be right. Consistency is so important and that is why this is a huge year for us. We are not even close to WRU, not close to a 1st round QB, unproven at backer and needless to say looking for studs on the OL. We do have great DL and DE guys and they will have to carry the defense that has to carry the team. The young talent is there and the coaches have to develop it. Florida recruiting is huge and the loss of Jeff and Brad Scott have really slowed our roll there and that is where the speed is. I know many will say Brad Scott was not an important piece of the puzzle but he knew everyone and was very, very respected.

Clemson takes a step back into the ACC pack because we lost four coordinators over 8 years. Uh, how many has Saban replaced over the same span? Hell, How many head coaches has Miami had over the same span???
How does the success of another program have anything to do with Clemson taking a step back because we replaced 4 coordinators over 8 years?
He’s clearly done 0 homework given his commitment assessment too, ? Clemson has lots of NFL talent all over the field and arguably more than in the period he is referencing.

I wish TNET would quit running stories about what everyone says about Clemson. Who really cares what Keyshawn says? I know I do not. He is allowed to have his own opinion, even though it might be wrong. He is only saying that because of our QB play last year and we all knew it was coming from people this season.

left one possible answer - Clemson. If I'm not mistaken he was asked basically "Which recent national champion do you see taking a step back."
IMO there have been 4 recent national champions, but if you want to go back 12 years and try to argue that as "recent" you can maybe stretch it to 6. This is the list with most recent title year:
Georgia - 2021 Bama - 2020 LSU - 2019 Clemson- 2018 Ohio State - 2014 FSU - 2013
FSU and LSU have clearly already taken many steps back so you can eliminate those two immediately.
Bama isn't going anywhere under Saban. They are a pretty heavy favorite to win it again this year.
Georgia just won it (with Stetson Bennett at QB no less) and Kirby has outrecruited everyone in the country recently.
Ohio State isn't going anywhere right now. They are loaded and always in the playoff hunt.
Clemson - Just went 10-3 after a 6 year playoff run and is currently replacing most of the coaching staff including arguably the best DC of the last decade. Recruiting has also seen a little hit over the last two years.
It's obvious that Clemson is the answer here. Does that mean we will fall back to the pack? No. But, given the choices here, we are the most likely. Key was given a question and he had to answer it. And he chose the answer that made the most sense.
If you want to blame somebody, blame the producer or whoever gave Key that question. Yall love to hate on random ESPN employees anyway.

Wow, what's your bar for NFL star then?

He played 11 years in the league, was a 3x pro bowler, and finished with 10,500 career receiving yards.
I think that qualifies as being a star.

Saban replaces coordinators every year. Dabo is the chief recruiter and our next class and last class look great. It is the head coach and the culture that sell Clemson.

We all have our opinions. The recruiting rankings tell a different story.

KJ doesn't have a clue what he's talking about. He says we are done bc we can't recruit Florida while naming recruits we pulled from Georgia. We also slayed the state of GA this year in recruiting. Young kids don't know Keyshawn and older guys will agree he was pretty good but no Megatron. My 12yo has a better perception of college ball. Oh btw nice try throwing USC in that convo, they have been amazing. Talking about a team who really has fallen back to the pack, the Trojans. Go Tigers!!!
