Ebenezer Ogundeko majoring in Architecture

Jan 10, 2013, 12:00 PM

Quite a big task to take on along with playing football. Nice to see someone who wants to put in serious work in the classroom, as well as the football field, by taking one of our most difficult offered majors. Best of luck to him

College of Art and Architecture a few years ago. He played during the OPIE years. You guys know, the one who got his tooth knocked out at GT.

I think he was the first and last to finish AA and had a 4.0 GPR if I'm not mistaken.

The Art, Architecture and Construction Science folks don't care about sports. We had a study session scheduled one Tues night while we hosted the holes in BB.

I made the session and begged for it to be cut short because The Dean was coming to town. Prof Liska didn't even smile when he told me he didn't care.

That was Cliff Hammonds as I recall.

Yes it was. He had a big heart.

Jan 10, 2013, 12:17 PM

He was one of my altime favorites. I don't do well with names so it's not an insult to him for me to have forgotten his.

It was Cliff Hammonds who majored in Architecture a few years back. Not only was he a good player for us, but I understand he was a good student as well. I think he had a very high 3.x GPA.

As an architecture graduate I don't know how they do it. It was time consuming enough without dealing with athletics. I spent countless nights in Lee Hall in the weeks before project deadlines. I do think the professors make some concessions with deadlines and presentations for the athletes though.

I thought his grades were reported as 4.0 and if they help the athletes that's something that has happened since 1988. We didn't have a major sport athlete in Lee at that time.

I' not sure they "help" them, but if you were in the architecture program you know that there is a presentation every few weeks, and sometimes the players schedule will conflict and a game will be out of town, and he will have to miss a presentation. I don't think there is anyway to avoid that.

Cliff Hammonds. AND he had double majored in

Psychology I believe (or maybe it was a minor).

He had great grades, my wife was in architecture for one year and had classes with him.

Was married and had a kid to boot.

...majoring in science, such as Biology? I recall a few others majoring in one or another Engineering, too. They could have been the walk-ons. I don't remember.

It's certainly impressive that a highly recruited (nationally) scholarhip athlete is choosing Architecture.

Pretty sure Howard Bartley (a LB from the mid-90s) was an IE major or at least he hung out in Freeman Hall ALOT

Just cause it's science doesn't mean it's hard

Come of his classmates say he's extremely bright and driven.

Proud of him!

Not overly difficult, just incredibly time consuming***

Re: Ebenezer Ogundeko majoring in Architecture

ummm... If he has good counsel, someone will steer him away from that major. There haven't been any jobs for the past 5 years and he can't become an architect with just an undergrad in Architecture from Clemson.
Granted, the degree isn't as demanding as it once was since the students only have to take 120 hours and not 141+. It will still be difficult to manage studio, projects, and the rigors of a football season. Tony Elliot did engineering which is much more difficult, but architecture can be much more rigorous and time consuming.

He can do it, we have some gr8 arch teachers and tutors.

Jan 10, 2013, 1:08 PM

Although I knew a girl that majored in arch and it was a running joke that they never socialized with anyone at Clemson due to workload.

He can look forward to some sleepless nights

I can't count the number of times my Arch friends pulled all-nighters in Lee Hall.

Re: Ebenezer Ogundeko majoring in Architecture

I think we had Track guy in Arch while I was there. We also had a dude try to walk-on as a receiver. Didn't work out, and his trying to attend spring practices & keep up with studio work looked like a gargantuan task at the time. It's going to be tough for Ebo given the practice time + travel vs. required studio time + late nights. Although, if Hammonds did it in Basketball (more disruptive travel schedule), then it must be possible. I wish Mr. Ogundeko all the luck in the world. Didn't Andrew Luck @ Stanford study architecture as well?

Andrew Luck did architectural engineering. Totally different emphasis in the curriculum.
