How does one get rid of groundhogs?

They seem to be extremely intelligent. They won't go in my trap. By the time I grab my .22,it's like they have a 6th sense and scurry back to their hole before I can even get to door for a shot.

If you don’t have animals or children, use a poison. Also you can use a bucket with water and put a board so they can walk up the board and fall into the bucket where they will drown.
Forgot to say you need to bait the water so they can smell it and walk up the board. Can’t swim.

I've tried poison but to no avail. Never heard of the walking the plank trick. The cat idea would be fun to watch, oh and fire brownL! There.

Well, let them eat your yard and do major damage for 13 years and hope they care enough to leave your yard on their own! If they truly love your yard, they will.

What kind of trap are you using?
Mar 18, 2023, 2:43 PM

In my experience, the plunger-style traps work more effectively. Place the trap over an active tunnel, step on the tunnel on each side of the trap to create a partial collapse, set the trap, and wait. When the critter come through the tunnel again and hits the tripping mechanism, the spears will kill the animal inside the tunnel. Works on moles and voles too.

Waiting for him to show his face. Just got to be patient. He’ll come out and then you can blast him. Just stay downwind and out of sight.

They make poison pnuts that you can drop in their holes but make sure no pets have access. I dropped some in several holes one day, my boykin smelled either them or me on them, either way she dug them up and it was a $1200 emergency vet bill after started puking non-stop.
I prefer the HMR 17 as my varmit mediator!

He says they are organic and vegan, not like coons or possums. He smoked one for me, and it was similar to pulled pork. 🧐🤯

I tried this several years ago, when I was having a problem with raccoons.
Go to Tractor Supply and get some Golden Maldrin sugar fly bait. It comes in a gallon can or smaller sizes...it's granulated. Put about a good handful in a container, pour on a can of coke, and mix it up. Then pour into a shallow container that won't be flipped over easily...I used the lid off a plastic five-gallon bucket.
The first night I tried this, the next morning I had three dead racoons within 10 feet of the bait! Over the next few weeks, I probably got over 20 racoons and 3 or 4 possums.
