only to extremely exceed them when you give up ? I believe that this man is a mastermind of the mind ####. MK Ultra has nothing on him.
Honestly, I'm not mad, just impressed I have never thought of this method

Make large portions of the fan base do 180’s on pretty hard-coded opinions multiple times.
The same people now insisting he’s a great coach and you just don’t know basketball if you disagree were yelling that they’d help him pack the u-haul a couple years ago, and it’s the third or fourth time they’ve swapped those opinions.

It must have been the 2019-2020 season that I started my boycott.

I felt the extension after Gabe DeVoe went nuts was silly. I know I was purposefully not watching or listening to the radio for that first win in Chapel Hill. This boycott continued until last year when I was at the gym and the game at Chapel Hill was playing. I couldn't help but see and get excited when the team ran out to that huge lead. I enjoyed the tournament run last year. So I reckon I have done the 180 Obed mentions, but only once.
I don't know enough about basketball to know if a better coach doesn't do things like drop the South Carolina or GT games. I don't know enough to know if Brad is a top 25 or top 10 coach or whatever. I figure as of late he's done a pretty good job. Certainly uses tools in the current environment well. I hope for the day I can fully trust him. See earlier examples of why I don't fully.

adjust on the fly, and make up inventive plays at the end of games when we are in a must-make situation. It's about the best I've seen.
Yes, sarcasm.

Honestly, over the lifetime of his tenure at Clemson, I am just kind of numb to everything involving BBall. Maybe that's exactly your point, I just never expect much from the team, so if they don't achieve greatness, it doesn't bother me.

Clemson played the long game with Brownell...

Brownell is a good coach, but he's not a great coach. Great coaches are rare and they require more commitment to find and keep than Clemson Basketball could afford so Brownell was the best option which is why he lasted as long as he did.
Two things have changed in Clemson and Brownell's favor recently.
1.) The NIL/transfer portal has been a magnificent boon to Brownell because it eliminates one of the program's and his biggest weaknesses: recruiting. He can't connect with high school kids, and the Clemson program has nothing really to sell to four- and five-star kids coming out of high school. The kids we do get need time to mature and develop which often leaves us with glaring holes in the lineup. Enter the transfer portal which fills in the gaps and Brownell has been exceptional at finding the one or two guys in the portal that elevate his teams.
2.) The ACC has lost all its swag. As the latest SEC-ACC challenge showed, the ACC, as a conference, is in a baaaad place right now. All the legendary coaches who ruled basketball have retired leaving a giant vacuum which has allowed Clemson an opportunity to take advantage. It reminds me a bit of Dabo and the football program where you suddenly had FSU/Florida/Tenn/UGA/Tennessee having multiple down years which allowed Dabo to swoop in and take generational players out of those team's backyards that he never would have been able to get when they were at their peaks. That's where Brownell and this Clemson Basketball program is right now and we are in a great position to take advantage of the ACC's down years.
(One related/unrelated note to all this is I just want to say that Del Jones is going to be a superstar for this team and one of my biggest worries for the next few years will be keeping him from leaving.)
