When talking about the games this weekend and how they impact the CFP, they are looking to be sensational. They are looking for clicks. They are looking for controversy.
But, it is still amazing to me that no one is talking about how bad Alabama looked against a very mediocre Auburn team and how lucky they were to win.
Seems like they all have roles to take. Each one is given a talking point and it is his job to yell about his talking point.
Why wasn't someone given this assignment?
"Did you see how bad Bama looked against Auburn? This Bama team would have lost to LSU if they hadn't knocked Daniels out of the game with a targeting call that wasn't called. They lost to Texas at home by 2 scores. They struggled against USF. And, then Auburn handed them the game after outplaying them the entire game. If Bama beats UGA it will prove that the SEC is all hat and no cattle. They are living off their reputation. If Bama beats UGA tell the SEC to go home and come back next year. You ain't proved nothing except you are a weak, over-rated conference. Case closed."

I'm just saying that talking heads are all over the place taking positions. But, none of them want to talk about the Bama Auburn game. They put great emphasis on FSU struggling with Florida, but completely dismiss Bama vs. Auburn.
I think they are basically taking positions more for entertainment purposes than for what they actually believe. So, why is there not even one that would "entertain the crowd" by belittling the SEC? The argument can be made that the SEC is down this year.
What is the best OOC victory the SEC has had this year? Kentucky over Louisville?

Who specifically is dismissing the Aubun-Bama game? Everyone on TV has talked about it. Bama caught a huge break with the dropped punt, then had every reason to give up. Their QB threw a laser that a WR made a play on. That's football. As for the Kentucky's win over Louisville...that was a huge win for the SEC. Unranked Kentucky beat #10 on the road. The same #10 that may wind up as ACC champ.

Good luck to FSU .. some SEC and BIG homers are saying they don’t deserve to be in the CFP since they lost their QB. If they win, they’re in .. FartBomb is trying his best to justify 2 SEC teams, and OSU is window licking at their shot. Things will sort themselves out as long as FSU wins; Dogs over Bama, hopefully FSU over Loserville, the winner of Oregon vs Washington and Cheater Hairball (playing an Iowa team w/no offense) ..

you understand they need their sycophants to try to boost their product. (sec) Why else would anyone put up with their d list talent like finebaum, mcelroy, and others. Disney profits first, they can't take time to want truth in reporting or what is best for the sport, just what is best for their brand.

What a miracle win for Bama over Auburn. You can’t dream that last play up. No pass rush and a DB that looks like he is drunk trying to play defense

That's not the same Bama team that lost to Texas and struggled against USF. As for the Auburn game, it's a rivalry and crazy things happen. Clemson lost at home to SC last season after spotting the Gamecocks 14. No one on planet earth believes SC was the better team.

They are who they are. They are a very good team, but not on the level of other Bama teams. They have improved, but so have other teams. Oregon and Texas have gotten better as well, and have been very consistent since their losses. Auburn literally lost to a G5 team by 17 points the week before...rivalry or not, the "not the same Bama team" didn't look very good. The rankings that have Bama at 8th behind Oregon and Texas are correct. If things are "equal" and it comes down to Texas...who has the "head to head" victory on the road at Bama, it goes to Texas. If other teams are undefeated, they go ahead of Bama too. Everyone gets to have their whining placated by the 12 team playoff next season, but until then...you need to win all your games to get into the playoff, like UGA has done....or if there are more 1 loss teams, win the ones that matter.

Imo, the face of college ball has changed a great deal since the BCS era.
Nov 30, 2023, 10:19 AM
|
|
ESPiN signed on to the SEC network and began to pass out very flattering preseason ranking to all the SEC team along with USCw, Texas, OSU, ND and several other teams with broad and traditionally active fans.
It wasn't uncommon to see half of the teams ESPiN had high regards for end up unranked at season's end. During the BCS SOS was a major part of the computer image of the landscaping. That's as real now as it was then with one talking head saying something flattering about as SEC team, truth or hyperbole, and it becomes fact to the entire network. Other sports broadcaster, often many, take up the cause.
It's a house of card which reviews of the mismatches in the NC games during the BCS era reveals. Remember, an SEC win is better than beating any other team in the nation and exactly like an SEC loss. Preseason ranking still influence who makes the playoff but even with only 4 yeams, imo, we've always seen the best team holding the trophy. I might contest the rematch(es) between SEC teams in the 4 team seeding.

If Washington,Michigan and FSU wins, they are in. The interesting thing will be if uga loses in this scenario. Will a Texas make the big jump or will uga stay in top 4?

If UGA loses, I'd have to imagine they are out in that scenario. The committee would have to decide between conference champs 1-loss Texas (Head to head win over Bama) and 1-loss Bama (SEC is the greatest). I guess Ohio St still could rear it's ugly head, but I can't imagine they would get in over a 1-loss conference champ. I for one am rooting for this to play out and the SEC be completely left out.

They are in fact just doing their job. Their job is, “marketing agent for the products their company has invested heavily in”. Namely, the SEC & B1G.
Analogy - When you go to the local Chevrolet Dealer, their sales team doesn’t tell you that they are Independent Automotive Experts and that they have determined that Chevrolet makes the best vehicles. When you go to the Chevrolet dealer, you know that you are dealing with Chevrolet salespeople and that they are going to sing the praises of all things Chevrolet and that they are going to downplay all the other manufacturers.
THAT, IS NOT what ESECPN does. ESECPN does not talk about their BILLIONS of dollars investment in the SEC. ESECPN wants everyone to think that they are independent sports news reporters and that the BILLIONS of dollars that they’ve invested in the one specific segment of their sports coverage, has no influence on their sports coverage. It’s a LAUGHABLE BOLD FACED LIE. It’s utterly, completely, absolutely, positively 100% unbelievable.
So where does that leave us? Well, that leaves us with, The largest sports media company, ESECPN , is now staffed with liars with a monetary incentive to lie and enrich themselves. They ARE NOT sports reporters, they ARE MARKETING AGENTS, for ESECPN’s sports investments.

I do believe Oregon should be in. They seem legit. B1G making it in is a waste. I don’t believe Michigan can beat Oregon, can’t beat FSU and they cannot beat Ga.

If any team is poised to beat Ga (who also struggled against auburn) in terms of offensive style and personnel, it’s bama, even though they have looked very human this year. Love the conjecture this time of year but I’ve had enough of the overpaid talking heads. There’s 8 viable playoff teams; you could have one loss Ga, bama conf champ, washington, oregon conf champ, texas conf champ, and osu, all fighting for a spot. this thing could go anywhere

That assignment was not given because of the gigantic conflict of interest that ESPN\disney have when it comes to SEC revenue. The other networks are not going to rock that boat either. All owned by the same 2-3 companies in the end.
