I’ve never really thought about it, but I would think there is a high chance. Matt had as good a chance as anybody landing sanders and Dabo blew it. Either way it’s a good OL class, but I don’t see the coaches sticking around if they don’t get the players they want to get.

Sanders wasn’t in the portal. It is strictly a high school kid’s decision on where to attend college, albeit with a NIL influence.
If our NIL packages are not competitive with other schools, then we (you included) need to pony up some $$ to help. If not, we need to accept that we can’t compete with top 10 schools based solely on financial metrics. It doesn’t mean zero money, but perhaps not as rich a package as other schools. There has to be an additional reason why recruits want to come to Clemson.

Nick Eason took PWoo right out from under Saban.
Crootin ain’t for the faint of heart. But I do agree that Sanders was likely a Tiger pre NIL.

I'll agree with you on Reed and Eason. Both have played and coached in the NFL as well as developed numerous NFL players. I think this is the part CDS didn't quite see coming. If it is, as stated on TNet, that Clemson doesn't have long pockets to compete in NIL world what you need is coaches who have a proven track record of developing NFL players to attract top recruits. Not coaches whose only significant experience on their resume' was Dabo is my best friend, I played with Dabo or I played for Dabo. It seems bad position coach hires have come back to haunt the program in this NIL/Transfer portal world.

That would be like leaving a steak house because you showed up and they were serving steak.
Those coaches have a better understanding of Dabo's approach to the portal than anyone on this board and they knew exactly what they were signing up for when they accepted the job.

Its been stated 8 mil times, it's not that Dabo is refusing to use the portal....he's just not taking anyone and everyone and he's also not getting into a bidding war. We're still recruiting at a high level, its up to the coaches to get the max potential out of those players. Teams like Colorado, S.C., FSU have no choice but to use the portal since they used it to fill a team every single year instead of fill holes. They pretty much have a new starting lineup each year now with no team chemistry. Clemson will be fine if the QB/WR combo takes off again.

Dabo has attempted to lure about 5 diff OL the last couple yrs, via the portal. We've been close on a few, just haven't closed the deal. So it's not as if he's ignoring it. I'd still take his philosophy over 20 in / 20 out, which a ton of these schools are doing!! Ole Miss, SCar, FSU....... if he can just get to where he's picking up 3 - 4 "need" players per yr, I think would b about right.

Dabo became HC in 2008.
NIL became legal in 2018.
Riley was hired in 2023.
Luke was hired in 23024.
It's not like they didn't know Dabo's opinion on the portal. It's been covered on ESPN and almost every third post on Tnet swears we'll lose to William and Mary if Dabo doesn't change. Maybe, just maybe, Luke and Riley want to recruit players out of HS that respect their original commitment and don't jump from school to school.

WHAT PART OF DABO IS NOT AGAINST THE PORTAL DO YOU PEOPLE NOT GET. WE HAVE TRIED TO GET SEVERAL GUYS THAT WENT ELSEWHERE. I WOULD MUCH RATHER SPEND MY MONEY ON KEEPING THE PETER WOODS AND BARRETT CARTERS OF THE WORLD THAN PAYING SOMEONE THAT IS JUST LOOKING FOR A BIG BAG.

Dabo has never "refused" to use the portal. He does have some guidelines, most players are transferring to start not to sit or be developed. Additionally; we honor our offers, if a player commits to Clemson, Clemson commits back...
Player has to want to come to Clemson...
Clemson has to want that player....
