Does DW4's Pro Day throwing plan change

Mar 12, 2017, 9:53 AM

with all this new "ball velocity" crap? He did so well at the combine, I was initially expecting him to sit on that performance and not throw. However, I wonder now if he and Palmer get back in the lab and devise a throwing ###### for DW4 to better showcase his arm strength to quiet the naysayers.

Curious why it's crap

The numbers come out every year, it's a pretty straight forward velocity measure and our guy didn't measure up as well as others. We'd be lauding the number if it were the best

It's crap because not at a single point in the process

Mar 12, 2017, 10:07 AM

has DW's arm strength been questioned. Not one scout has raised that concern. They've watched him for three years and seen every second of tape on him and never once has this been brought up. Now, he's Steve Walsh.

Just doesn't jibe

Arm strength and deep ball accuracy have been questioned

Mar 12, 2017, 10:11 AM

Throughout the process. Scouts have been saying things like "the ball hangs up in the air". By no means am I bashing Deshaun, but as someone who follows the draft process pretty closely year in and year out, this was a worry for DW4

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

DW4 has a 65 yd in the air completed throw on game tape

Mar 12, 2017, 10:25 AM

How can you question his arm strength after that throw? I doubt many if any of the other QBs in this draft class has a completed throw like that on tape. How many of DW4's INTs in his career can you contribute to him flat out not having enough arm strength? Bad decision, tipped ball, bad throw, sure. I don't know of any that were because of a lack of arm strength.

"Ball hangs in the air"? What the hayull are the fools

saying this basing it on . . . because it sure isn't based on anything Deshaun Watson has done.

Can't help but wonder how ...

Mar 12, 2017, 10:55 AM [ in reply to Arm strength and deep ball accuracy have been questioned ]

Joe Montana(who admitted he couldn't throw a ball over 55 yards), George Blanda, Danny Fouts, Bob Griese, and Sonny Jurgensen(all notorious floaters on passes and in the Hall Of Fame) would do on these tests?

For some reason, and I haven't quite figured it out, it's

as if most of these "analysts" and "gurus" simply refuse to believe what they have seen repeatedly with their own eyes over the last few years.

Interesting that M. Glennon had the same velocity as DW4

Mar 12, 2017, 10:38 AM

He's a statuesque QB who had a reputation for having a big arm, yet he had a combine ball velocity of 49 too. Fast forward a few years later and he gets $45M to sign with the Bears, which plays in one of the windiest stadiums in the league.

So, does combine throw ball velocity really matter that much?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I thought it was common knowledge that Watson doesn't have a huge arm.

Mar 12, 2017, 10:50 AM

It's not like he has poor arm strength. It's always been average or a little above average. Seems to be strong enough to make the throws unless they are worried about him playing in a cold, windy environment.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All part of the plan. Throw a ball with less velocity and

have those crappy teams that play in windy environments like Cleveland, Buffalo, Chicago and San Francisco pass on him and he ends up being picked by a better team. ;)

put'em in a barrel and use 'em for target practice.

eff'em all.

if you could bottle the crap the media puts out and make it energy

king oil would be a thing of the past

and the Middle East would get as much attention as Africa does now.

You know who else didn't have great "ball velocity?"
Joe Montana.
If you're smart and anticipate, it doesn't matter. He makes all the throws.
