Lemme guess: The typing pool watched the game and at the end they stood up, applauded and said in unison, “We are so blessed to have our coaching staff. They are the best!” Dabo is right, though. It IS all about the “e” word. Why does Grumpy Nick have a scowl on his face even when Bama is winning? It ain’t because the AFLAC duck just bit him on the leg. It’s because some Bama player was not executing. Same with us. And think back to Trevor’s last two years. Often, there was a failure to execute at many positions, so we let teams hang around too long, or we did not score as many points as we should have—or both. So this issue predates DJ. It is a coaching issue, a motivation issue, a lack-of-personal-consequences issue. The coaches aren’t executing. And gentlemen of the jury, I offer you Exhibit A: A quarterback who is clearly a sincere, hard-working young man, but who can’t execute in game after game. And the consequences for him? Zero. They hand him the ball when our offense takes the field for the first time in every game.

Huh?? So if those same plays are run and dj is 21/29 say for 215 and we don’t fumble a punt and kick… and don’t get burnt on a 4th and 1 bc a safety didn’t do his one job and win the game 40-20 it’s all game plan ?! Come on man that took no effort … I mean I get It not running the ball as much in the second half was a terrible decision but at some point players make plays and we just don’t have that killer instinct

Lol man you got to be kidding.. you don’t force a kid struggling to win the game when it’s clear you don’t have to.. receivers and qb combined struggled whoever you want to blame doesn’t matter.. ship and Mafah were having their best game on the ground that’s stupid coaching decision to completely take the game out of their hands. And enough with the 4th and 1 Makuba saved the TD and we got the interception, they did not score so why bring it up over and over

Players make plays that they were trained to make. Ball security can be taught. Eye discipline can be developed. Tendencies can be studied and passed to the players. Good habits can be driven into their heads.
Anybody that was surprised that South Carolina passed on 4th down did not watch their game against Tennessee. Why run when you are being stonewalled? Kind of goes with why pass so much when you are getting 6 to 8 yards a pop on most runs?

And Goodwin and Conn.
Unless the secretaries are former football players, this would be stupid. The secretaries should not have enough knowledge to offer input. If they do, they fit the bill as an inside hire so move Streeter and Goodwin to secretary and promote from the typing pool.
Basically, why punish the secretaries for the coaches not doing their job?

From what Eric had to say there have only been 2 of these meetings over the years. Players required to stand up and explain to the group why they did what they did in those failed plays. It was brutal.

Good for Dabo, and good for the team. I'm sick of guys muffing assignments, and after, pointing to themselves saying, "my bad", and thinking that makes it all better. BS! Fix the problems at practice and execute properly from snap to whistle, and the muffed plays will diminish significantly.

Well I hope Streeter, and several other coaches, stood up too... But, I just don't know if it'll change anything. Most of those that are responsible for this loss and the overall poor offensive play for the past two years are NOT capable of coaching and playing at an elite level. Dabo obviously was during most of his tenure, but that seems to have changed too. Reluctance to accept change (i.e., utilizing the transfer portal, seek coaching professionals with experience and pedigree, etc, etc) has caught with us.

Now even the secretaries have to listen to Dabo’s excuses for DJ. All teams have breakdowns like this weekly. Good QB play overcomes a lot of it. I hope the receivers told Dabo it’s hard to catch a wounded duck coming at you!

The secretaries? What a bunch of blame shifting theater. This is getting to be a bit much. Recruit better, coach (a lot) better and stop with blaming the players when this multi-million dollar staff underperforms. We all saw this coming during Q1 vs Tech. Here we are with the same issues. Only a weak schedule has the team at 10-2. Are we spoiled as a fan base? Absolutely. Is this staff being paid to perform? Absolutely. Let's prepare for next season and beyond starting Saturday. This ACC championship game is virtually meaningless.

and put me on ignore so I'll say it for all the grown-ups in the room:
this ACC title means something - it's money in Dabo's pockets, for sure. And it sells to 4- and 3* recruits looking to play for ACC titles.
*Yawn*
It's not enough anymore. It just isn't. Dabo broke the ceiling and now CFPs are the standard no matter how much he rails against the fanbase that he trained to expect him/them to live up to that standard.

Dabo set our standard in 2010.......
Dec 1, 2022, 8:38 AM
|

when he FIRED his buddy that NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIRED TO OC AT CLEMSON. He went out and hired an innovative offensive mind that brought an identity, high scoring offense, & attracted TALENT to Clemson on offense that hadn't been seen before.
a short year later...he raised the bar even higher.
Dabo took Clemson to their first 10-win season in 2 decades.........their first ACC Championship in 2 decades..............was Dabo satisfied? telling our fans to be grateful that we're not 4-8???..............NO........he FIRED HIS DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR because he wasn't up to DABO's national championship standard that he was trying to build..................he then went out and made the BEST DEFENSIVE HIRE that one could ask for who TRANSFORMED the defensive side of the ball.
the 2010/2011 Dabo was hungry and NEVER satisfied................that Dabo needs to come back.

That phrase captures it exactly. Like another poster said, sounds like there were whispers around the facility and Dabo decided to put every secretary, courier, and coffee runner in their place, lest they step outside the narrative, instead of worrying about his own job. Pathetic. This kind of crap is part of the problem. Gathering the team, staff and analysts together is one thing - this is another. He's going above and beyond to enforce his narrative.

Boy, for some folks it sure is easy to point the finger when you are not accountable for the actions on the field. I dare say that many players had to stand up and explain what they did not do correctly Saturday. I have watch the game 3 times and there were a bunch of folks who did not do their job along with the QB. Maybe this will help folks play better or get in the portal and move on. I, for one, understand what the Boss Coach is doing.

Yes, there were dropped passes and turnovers in the S.C. game, but in the end you win anyway because your quarterback finds a way to win. The high school coach of Billy Wiles (also in our QB room) said, “Billy’s greatest strength is he finds a way to win.” Look at Trevor Lawrence last Sunday against the Ravens, by far a better team than the Jags. He found a way to win as the clock ran out, throwing a pass for a 2-point conversion. In 2019 against Ohio State in the CFP semi-final, the Buckeyes led 16-0 midway into the second quarter. But first Etienne scored and then Trevor saw an opening and ran 67 yards for a TD. We went into the half behind by only 2 points, 16-14. We won 29-23 because in the third quarter, Trevor threw a 53-yard TD pass to Etienne, and in the fourth quarter, Trevor threw a 34-yard TD pass to Etienne with 1:49 left in the game. And then Trevor hit Tee Higgins for a 2-point conversion that iced it. Ohio State was probably the better team, if only by a little, but our quarterback FOUND A WAY TO WIN.

If not, then, why not?
I would like to add in winning over the Coots beside winning the ACC, making it to the CFP, winning the National Championship.
In fact, while they’re at it, DOUBLE, no, TRIPLE, the Coot-win incentive. Regardless of what happens on Saturday, a dark cloud has formed over the state of South Carolina.

Great. They should not simply be watching the film. That is not enough. This should be done every week. Each player who feels that they could have done better should “confess” in front of the entire team or unit if they feel that they could have done better. The coaches need to call out anyone not standing up or accepting responsibility who contributed to the play. The bar for level of accountability needs to be higher. Awareness needs to be higher. Execution and effort need to be better. Right now, there is a mentality that will not win a national championship. The process is beneficial and learning and communication are accelerated. This process has been done for decades in surgical training programs. It works.

but Dabo's good ol' boy theatrics are wearing thin.
We get it. Youre throwing everything but the kitchen sink at all the issues. Blah blah blah.
Or do you think we're impressed that you shanghai'd everyone but the landscaping crew into a film session?
Dang, dude. Stop patronizing. Youre not engineering a nuclear submarine. Youre coaching football. Play better.
I'll admit, the "ROY Bus" routine wears like a comfy fleece when youre playing Bama for a national title and all eyes are on little ol' Clemson. Makes a nice foil (and recruiting message) to Saban's soulless machine routine.
But absent that and in the face of another non-CFP berth, it just comes off as rubish and mundane.
Just win, baby.

Yeah, you've had too much coffee.
Dabo just called out the players who messed up, including Uiagalelei. He also said Uiagalelei was down two strikes again, or however he put it, and gas to get up off the mat again. Sounds like, a) Uiagalelei is on a short leash, and b) "again" sounds like it's not the first time.
I know a lot of people believe in fairies and unicorns, and think just firing one guy or benching another guy magically makes is 12-0. Personally, I'd rather solve the problem, rather than believing in fairy tales.

Dabo sensed mutiny in the ranks and heard all the whispers behind his back. So, he called in all the secretaries, janitors, kitchen staff, landscapers, players and coaching staff to watch a 2 hour horror movie... So, all involved including secretaries etc. had to stand up and tell what they did wrong and what they will do to correct the problem... Ok I get it but, did the coaching staff have to do the same thing??? They sure as heck should have been the one's who started off the meeting but, I doubt it!

What happened to next man up philosophy? Last time I looked at sideline there were close to 100 players, but no one got benched during the entire fiasco, regardless of “mistakes” or lack of effort, or anything else. Only player that got benched during game was Mickens who was actually playing his heart out, and Clemson did not bench him….the refs did! Maybe we need to apply that next man up to some of the coaches. If they can’t see what is happening during a game, they don’t need to be calling plays. Excuses and blames serves no one. We have had same issues all year and every week we hear, little things that can be fixed, but next game shows same problems. Dabo is a great coach, but he needs to FIX the problems, not blame everybody in the country. If the stars can’t throw, block, tackle, or hold on to the ball, then put the next man in that can. There were a lot of players on sideline that never got to play one snap!

There were enough mistakes on both sides of the ball to have made the meeting longer than 2 hours. We were physically whipped at Notre Dame but Saturday was all about offensive and defensive mistakes and 2 huge special team fumbles. It was not all on DJ's shoulders.

Dinkins and her Sisters of the Poor Sunday School class for input too. Maybe even a scrimmage? I’ve heard that team runs a great offensive scheme and executes with flawless precision on every play. At least that’s what Pigskin Prophet says, and he’s never wrong!

Slow to adapt on this as they are not "secretaries" they are now office or personal assistants.

I taught college students for 40 years, and I don’t think I have ever seen so many people miss the point of an an exercise as on this post. Simply put, Dabo was showing those in attendance that it took a team effort to lose to the coots. Evidently, he had the secretaries there so they could understand that and help get that message out. And for those who think he should call out his staff in front of this group, that’ show’s a total lack of management skills. For all we know, he did that, but in another setting. Did DJ play poorly? No doubt. Was the play calling predictable and unimaginative. Yep. Did more than one player not do what he had been coached to do.? You bet. Did a coach drop a pass, run the wrong route, miss a tackle, or blow a coverage? Nope. Are the ones who are calling out Streeter the same ones that wanted Toni Elliott to be fired? I too would like to see some changes made, but I’m also darn happy to have 10 wins and to be playing for the league championship. Go Tigers.

Geez, why punish the secretaries and janitors ? It wasn’t their decision to keep DJ in and lose to our biggest rival. Maybe they’re working overtime now to put together a game plan for Saturday. Does Suzie or Alice secretary get to pull the plug on DJ this week?

.. but it would have taken just one substitution at QB to give us a better chance of winning.
If this was a “one off” we’d be disappointed, and most everyone would be going about their business. But this has been going on for 5 straight games. First a sack, then a fumble, then an interception. It’s Groundhog Day.

They had to use screens. Only player who can catch DJ went out and is out for season (B. Collins). The few times he has tried to go downfield this year, it was caught, just by the wrong team most of the time. If the QB and receivers can’t perform in games, it does not matter how well they do in practice. Maybe, they need to try different combinations of both QB & receivers. Out of all players on our team, there has to be more than 1 that can catch a ball and hold onto it! If not, then find some that can. Portal looking better all the time! As for secretaries, maybe they should call some plays. If the same thing keeps happening every week, it’s not hard for opponents to figure out how to beat us. For the record, Dabo is right. There was plenty of blame to go around. Unfortunately, blaming does not fix problems! We see the problem, just not seeing it get fixed! Hopefully the secretaries (admin. assistants) were there to take notes! Anyway, I don’t care how they fix problem, but hope they do before Saturday! Go tigers!!!!

… or were his plays also scrutinized? The 21 out of 29 passes that he missed? And his fumble (although it was recovered).
How about the coaches decision for not replacing DJ especially when he got hurt.

From those comments....
Dec 1, 2022, 12:23 PM

.... I can speculate the points Dabo was driving across to the players.
1. To DJ: You've got to play better. Your performance was unacceptable. 2. To WRs, DBs, RB, OL, ... : I don't care what you hear in your social media. You ain't gonna make DJ the scapegoat. Your play wasn't up to par either. 3. I hold all of you accountable. Don't try to place this loss on somebody else. You're all accountable.
I am assuming it was not a pleasant coaches meeting as they went over the game tape either. I imagine he called out several assistants and pointed out their mistakes as well. And, yes, I think he held himself accountable as well.
Anybody who thinks Dabo has grown soft and complacent is naive or foolish.

Watch as much film, and point out as many mistakes as it takes to make the reasons of why ( in this case lost ) you will find the answer that you're looking for to place blame. Now that you have diverted the actual blame in desired direction, you're still at the point to where you started, the why is still unanswered bc you would rather it wasn't bc of what you knew the problem was all along. Coaches trying to make something work that hasn't worked in two full seasons, the QB play, and that cause is directed at Dabo, and Streeter.
Do anybody remember that Chad Morris refused to change his system, and his system would work well with a dual threat QB, and when DW4 was out from having surgery after the coot game, and Chad Morris left before the bowl game with Oklahomo, that left Tony Elliot and Jeff Scott having to come up with a system to fit Cole Stoudt. Cole looked like the best QB we've ever had in that game, and it was only bc our coaches came up with a system that a pro style QB like Cole Stoudt could thrive in, and he beat Oklahomo like they belonged in a peewee FB league.
Well, the biggest problem with DJ is that he doesn't move well, and he belongs in an option QB system with design QB runs, and very few of them, just enough for the threat to be there. But Dabo, and Streeter have been adamant about not changing our offensive system that doesn't work best for DJ, DJ is in the Tajh Boyd/DW4/Trevor system where the QB has an accurate arm that can throw the ball anywhere on the field, and as far down the field as our receivers can get when the QB extends the time of play with their legs, and that's the one thing that DJ is awful at doing, and that is why a rookie true freshman can come in and look good with as little experience as he has, and it's bc a QB like Cade works best in a system like we run at Clemson.
DJ could transfer to where they run a really good option QB system, and he would shine bc he is big guy that can get a team with the right O Line 7 or 8 yards 10-12 times a game!!!

Richard Petty used to say, "you have have to put yourself first in a position to win, before you can actually win". As much as execution and killer instinct is lacking in some players....Streeter didn't put the players in a position to win. I get tired of a coach (or coaches) that's paid VERY HANDSOMELY giving regurgitated excuses like "we could have certainly coached them better today". HEY COACH YOUR PAID WELL TO DO JUST THAT!

What’s not to like here. Our BLM Clemson tigers displayed perfectly the desired direction of our sports programs. What I saw on display this past Saturday versus u of sc was plenty of “unity”, “love”, “peace”, “justice”, “togetherness”, etc. . Any other outcome would have betrayed these beloved principles. Go administration, BOT, coaches, and players; and, oh yeah, the secretaries. Well done. Looking for repeat against u of nc. Go Tigers!

So 8-29 for 99 yds is not to blame, huh...Try telling that to Nick Saban. Yes there were turnovers but 8-29 for 99 yds (40 yds was on one play) was just at fault. It wasnt all DJ's fault true, but he could have been the difference maker and he wasnt. It was poor execution all around. With that being said that game is over and we need to focus on UNC.
