This is laughable what you said. A 12 seed beats a 5 seed almost every season usually happens more than once, which was the case with 12 seeded Colorado State beating #5 Memphis also. Both those 5 seeds had key injuries late losing ironically two guards by the name last name Hunter.

but in reality, no one cares enough about Clemson basketball to make us the biggest joke in the field. If we were a name brand for bball or a top 2-3 seed, it would be different.

What the difference now then in the consecutive years of 09 and 10 that they were ranked in final poll? Only other time it's has happened...

Literally no one cared then. And no one cares now.
All anyone looks at is the tournament results. Not some useless final AP poll.

It's a big accomplishment that his immediate predecessor accomplished by season 6. Is there any expectation and timetable whatsoever you would put on Brad or would you just have him be coach for life from here out. Just give him a rolling five year contract with 10% annual raise and 50% buyout?

I wish we could be a serious basketball program and celebrating stuff like this isn't it. We're coasting through the worst period in ACC basketball history, have nothing meaningful to show for it, and other schools are making investments. Pat Kelsey is the real deal. Duke isn't going anywhere. Will Wade at NC State is a problem. Not sure how long Pitt sticks with Capel but that's a program with expectations. Davis either figures it out in a year or two at UNC or they go after a big name. The window is shrinking and we've done nothing to show we are ready to punch through to the top of the conference. We've folded at every opportunity.
I think the Brownell / Tommy Bowden comparison is rooted in two guys who have decent programs and well into their tenures they punch above their weight and score upsets once in awhile but can't close the deal. Tommy never made the ACCchampionships game. In 2006, we beat the two ranked teams we faced all season, including a top 10 FSU, but finish behind Wake, BC, and Maryland in the division. In 2007 we opened with a win against FSU then crapped the bed and finished behind BC. Things had gotten so pathetic we rewarded him with an extension for being competitive against Tennessee in a bowl game.
It's the same pattern with Brownell except he is much better paid and it never, ever ends. People were making the exact same rationalizations about Bowden up to and after he his firing.

Yes. Lots of things make me happy. Finally moving on from mediocrity in football has made me happy. Despite all your complaining about football, the last 3 years would match the 3 best years in program history from a win perspective. Which you seem to think is relevant at basketball but not football. I continue to believe that the sky is the limit for our football program.
Hiring Erik Bakich made me happy. Not only did I predict from day one that Monte Lee would not work at Clemson, if you dig you’ll see that when we fired Leggett I argued that Bakich was the best coach we had a legit shot at. I believe sky is the limit for this baseball program.
Brownell has been afforded every opportunity to build a championship program. He has been given an unprecedented amount of time. I have no reason to believe he is capable of winning a championship - conference or national. You have pointed to Purnell’s failure to win in the tournament as reason to denigrate his tenure. Some of us looked at his departure as opportunity. We had hit an all time low under Shyatt and Purnell rebuilt us into a relevant program. Purnell’s leaving should have been a chance to move a rung up the basketball ladder. In a similar period of time Brownell accomplished nothing whatsoever and coasted on complaints about facilities and financing. Things that didn’t hinder Purnell’s rebuild. The back half of his time has been better but it is tempered by an acutely degraded and diluted conference. So, as asked elsewhere, is there any objective standard that Brownell can be held to. Or is he coach for life at this point? He’s relatively young yet been here nearly 1/3 of my life. He could easily be here another 15-20 more years. As long as he averages 20+ wins and a NCAA tourney appearance every 2-3 years is that good enough? Are you willing to put any objective requirement on him?
