Elite speed...

I would say CJ Spiller, Jacoby Ford, Sammy Watkins are about the only ones we've seen with elite speed.

I saw Jerry Butler, James Trapp (I believe he has an Olympic Medal), and you saw Mike Bellamy and Spencer Adams (who will be in the next Olympics).

I don't see anyone that can take it to the house like sammy and cj did on any play. Recruiting is goning well but we haven't landed a real offensive stud since sammy.

Pitchers. Growing up if a guy said he throws mid to upper 80's, that meant he probably threw about 84.
Not saying Ogelsby is lying but you know when a guy can fly. Just like you know when a pitcher actually throws

Wasn't Davidson on a track scholarship? I always thought that Hopper was considered fast but I haven't seen it yet. Good blocking will make up for some of the lack of speed.... especially from the receivers.

Anyway, I think our O will be fine in the speed department.

Peake is faster than Sammy . . . .
Jan 26, 2014, 11:55 AM
|

per Dabo:
After practice on Monday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said wide receiver Charone Peake was timed as the fastest player on the team this summer. "He ran a 4.2 something," said Swinney. Swinney also said he has pleased with Peake's focus so far this season.

We didn't sign anybody w/world class speed, but we did sign some guys that are fast enough, probably as fast as Nuk Hopkins for instance, and he had no problem getting behind the secondary.

We've also already got Peake, who was probably our fastest player last year

Heard that guy ran a 4.00 40. 4 minutes that is. Had to spend first 3 minutes and 52 seconds blasting Giff for whiffing on a block.

"speed" is such a subjective term
Jan 26, 2014, 12:48 PM
|

Sure everyone wants to know the 40 time. But what about short area quickness, come drills, shuttles, fast twitch muscle and explosiveness etc. etc. etc.
IMO we have tons of speed on the team [ref. OSU vs CU 2014] CJ and Sammy are the rare athletes that posses all of the attributes that are considered speedy. Jacoby Ford doesn't really even belong in conversation to me.
A better question would be, "do we have the offensive weapons to score from anywhere and at anytime?" Your answer is yes, tons of them.

Peake's as fast as Sammy, just isn't as fast with the ball
Jan 26, 2014, 4:16 PM

Kinda like Spiller and Ford. Spiller was faster with the ball, but if you lined them up side by side in shorts in a short sprint, Ford would beat CJ everytime. Peake's speed in shorts has yet to really translate on the field IMO. If Peake has recovered from his Knee injury, I do expect him to inherit a lot of the deep routes we use to throw to Bryant.
