Directions from Clemson to Cheraw

Nov 7, 2012, 10:29 AM

Mapquest gives me 3 routes, all about the same time. Any suggestions best route for those familiar with this trip?

Although I live in Charlotte now...i am from near Cheraw

and went to Clemson.

Columbia: The quickest way for you will be to go through Cootlumbia and hit 1-20. Take Highway 1 in Camden all the way to Cheraw. Hold your breath and lock your doors driving through Cola.

Highway 72: Taking highway 72 through Chester is the straightest route but it has lots of speed traps and little towns.

Charlotte: It is about the same distance as Columbia, but Highway 74 can be a nightmare compared to Highway 1. I wouldn't reccomend this route.

I live in Charlotte also and travel home to Clio quite a bit. If you can avoid Charlotte/Monroe during rush hour, it's not too bad but Highway 74 can be a nightmare if you hit it at the wrong time. There's really not a good way from Charlotte to Cheraw...believe me, I have tried them all.

I grew up in Cheraw and went to Clemson. Now live in Greenville and make the drive home to see my family fairly often. Best route from there is Hwy 1 to Camden and pick up I-20 through the Armpit and onto I-26. I-385 and then if you have a few dollars to throw away the toll road Southern Connector is worth it to cut the corner over towards Piedmont/Powdersville and get over to I-85 South. I prefer just going to Exit 19 near Anderson and coming that way.

Thanks guys. I'm ging to watch Pendleton play Cheraw in a 2nd round playoff game. Imagine driving 4 hours for an "Upstate" playoff game. At least the Clemson game on Saturday isn't a nooner.

Well, guess I have you the reverse directions but you can figure it out. Columbia - Camden - Cheraw route should take you about 3 1/2 hours if you keep moving. Watch your speed in Camden and the other small towns on Hwy 1 (Patrick, McBee etc.)
