NIL

Not sure why so many on here can’t understand the concept of NIL. I keep hearing people say that Dabo is right and players should have to earn NIL. Quick question… how many of you have worked for free to earn pay at a respectable company? Didn’t think so!! You earned your salary based on your resume and previous experience!! For college players that is their high school football careers. They don’t have to prove anything. If you don’t like the film then don’t recruit them. How can Dabo say we’re the only major college program who doesn’t pay for their services? It’s like starting a restaurant and only paying employees once they have proved their loyalty to the company. Never heard of this.

Is there a link to some information that states we weren’t going to pay Sanders or any other recruit NIL funds?
I’ve seen some statements that they want it to be more than just money for Clemson recruits, but that’s a far cry from claiming there’s some kind of a coaching staff ban on NIL funds for recruits.

So, if we are not going to use the NIL money to pay recruits or those in the portal, why does it matter how much NIL money we have?

I don't blame a HS PLAYER for going where he can get paid by another top team who can compete for a natty. And in the new CFP that is 12 teams and about 8 -10 of them will come from SEC and BIG.

JOSH PATE just did a ranking of the top 15 teams projected to be in the top 15 for the next 3 years. He ranked Clemson #14. FSU was ranked #6. Miami #13.
UGA#1
BAMA #2
Oregon #3
OSU #4
Texas #5
FSU #6.
ALL USE THE portal and all use nil to pay HS PLAYERS.

Every word of the OP is correct. You are preaching to a very small minority on this board that understands exactly what you’re saying while most on here want to ignore it and bury their heads in the sands bc they see it as immoral.

I actually saw a post earlier where a guy actually said he’d rather lose with Dabo doing the way we are than to win with somebody else that used NIL to acquire HS players or portal guys and others actually agreed with every word he said. I mean I honestly don’t even know how to respond to such as that.

Why is it immoral for these kids to get paid to play football? Just bc it’s college and for the past 100 years it’s been a certain way? It’s the most ridiculous thought process. It’s not immoral or unethical at all and it’s no different than anything we’ve done to get to where we were just 3/4 short years ago.

A lot of posters on this board actually believe that we haven’t played the dirty recruiting game like everybody has. We didn’t get to where we were/are by playing by the rules. If anyone honestly believes we haven’t done some back door stuff then you’re either in complete denial or you just aren’t being honest with yourself.

If this board knew about even half the stuff we’ve done to get guys over the years all these mentalities would be totally different. Dabo has most convinced that he is the second coming of JC himself and that he’s never done anything like that to get a player.

We were coming off a 6-7 season with a nobody HC in Dabo at the time and a bowl loss to South Florida and signed 4 5 star recruits and I believe what was a top 10ish class overall. Do people really believe we got those guys just bc Clemson is better than everywhere else? Stop lying to yourselves.

As I’ve said… if you’re cool with 8/9 wins a year and a bowl victory 2 out of every 3/4 years then yes in your eyes we’re going to be fine. If you still want to compete for national titles and go toe to toe with the big boys… then things must change and in a hurry. We have to start playing the game just like everybody else.

We have money and lots of it. Don’t fool yourselves. Nobody is saying get into every bidding war over every player you want. However if you want/need a 5 star QB/5 star WR/5 star RB then you’re going to have to open up the checkbook up front. That’s just the way it is now whether we like it or not.

If we’re not going to play that game then Clemson doesn’t need to be shelling out 11 mill a year for a head football coach. That is top dollar. When you pay top dollar… you expect top dollar results and 8/9/10 wins a year isn’t top dollar results. 8/9/10 wins a year are nice/solid seasons and that’s it. That’s nothing spectacular and certainly not worth 11 mill a year.

Not a good example when the teams pay a signing bonus to get around that. Sure all rookies have the same salaries but not compensated the same by the team. Especially when factoring in signing bonuses. NFL players are drafted according to their college resumes. The better the resume the better the signing bonus. This is no different no matter how you want to slice it.

From there, I went on to be the youngest person in the state to hold my position, at age 23. It never occurred to me once to ask for something before I proved my worth.

If you don’t think people have to prove their worth, in football (I’ve coached it), business (I’ve owned multiple), life (I’ve lived it, not existed, but lived), and will still get paid, you are mistaken.

The reward is at the finish line, not the starting line.

You're right about the reward should come at the end. My fathercame back from WW2 and started working as a commisioned sales person. He saved his money, opened a hardware store and went broke while I was at Clemson and told me I was on my own.

He went back to work as a salesman, traveling the southeast with one bad annual result after another until his hard work was recognized and better companies recognized his abilities, efforts and results.

He retired very comfortably and when some of his peers said he was lucky to be where he was and how they could get there, his response was "Well, I found that the harder I worked the luckier I became".

There aren't a lot of people on the planet who can do what the elite players can do and we pay a lot of money to watch them do it. I don't like schools getting into bidding wars for players either but if there wasn't value to what they do then really smart people wouldn't pay them to do it. The toothpaste is out of the tube we're not going back to time where these guys aren't getting paid so now we have to find a way to regulate it.
