I believe the context was every meaningful metric for the black community has gone in the wrong direction since the civil rights legislation was passed. I don't believe he was in favor of segregation or unequal treatment, but the way it was done yielded negative consequences.

Wrong. He said he disagreed with parts of the civil rights ACT. No the civil rights movement. He named specific black women who said they had benefited from affirmative action, which he was against because it lowered standards to accept people based on skin color and gender. He just called out those specific women for admitting they needed affirmative action to get into specific positions.

He said the Civil Rights Act was a mistake because it created a permanent bureaucracy to promote DEI, a concept that he and many others oppose.
With respect to the "mental capacity of black women", he was referring to affirmative action programs. He said Michelle Obama and other affirmative action supporters lacked the brain processing power to understand arguments on those policies. In other words, he was referring to questions around the competency of people who are hired or admitted based solely on race or gender as opposed to merit.

Kirk did say that MLK was a womanizer/adulterer who quoted Bible verses and claimed to be a Man of God but was not what he appeared. He did say MLK being responsible for ending segregation was a good thing. He also said that the civil rights movement leading to government welfare has done more harm than good for the Black community. And he never made that comment about black women.
Yeah, his comments were controversial but those were his opinions. Did he deserve to get murdered for going onto college campuses and offering a differing opinion/belief to “our impressionable students”? Isn’t that what advanced education is all about, listening to other’s views and learning to agree/disagree in a civil manner?
To answer the OP, the Clemson Chapter of his American Comeback had a prayer vigil at the Amphitheater last night.
