deer windows7crazy

I had my farm shipped to me and I am using the router that the production uses as a local hotspot for basically any jagleg that happens to be on our property. I have it set up so that anyone accessing the router via WLAN can not #### with my ####, but the problem is that all my farm machines are now visible to the internet. Several google searches have indicated that windows as absolutely no way to disconnect a computer from the internet without completely disabling the network connection(thanks NSA)
do you know fo a clever way around this? My machines need to talk to each other, but all the slaves need to not have net access. My initial thought was to put a password on the router and not give it to the slaves, but like I said, the router also serves as a local hotspot for jacklegs that come through here on the weekend.

Designate one machine as a proxy, and the other machines

go through it. If the computers connect wirelessly, set up a wireless router on the LAN side of the proxy server, then wire it to the Proxy. Then have the computers all connect to this router, and use your proxy server to filter traffic to and from the internet. I'd recommend using Microsoft ISA Server (2008, or later) to secure your proxy server.

thanks, that sounds more complicated than buying a switch and setting up two independent networks. Problem is I left my switch in storage and need a temp solution to get through the weekend.
It absolutely drives me berserk that you can't instruct windows 7 to not connect to the net, ####### crazy.

Yeah, for your purposes, exactly what krzy suggested works.

I didn't read the whole post, obviously, as I didn't see that the farm machines didn't need to get out.
Also, separate switches will also solve the issue where one switch has no internet access.

I'd recommend that, put another router/switch and disable

Internet on it, then you're not messing with the TCP/IP settings on each computer and can easily give them Internet access if you want to in the future (login to extra router/switch and enable).

that is how I roll at home with a USB wifi to router, and switch to create the file sharing. I decided to wire directly into their router cause they have the fastest internet I have ever seen here. It is Freaking DSL, and it still clocks in at 20Mbit.
