That's crazy. That seems worse than pro teams as far as turnover is concerned. Hard for fans to get to know who the heck is on the team. Gives me appreciation for how our team is built and maintained.
I believe if the Covid period did not happen and Dabo could have gotten players to visit our campus those years, we would not have suffered the dip in performance that we had. Notice, now that we have been getting players to visit, our recruiting and play level has gotten better. I hope everyone is right about this team. Feels right. Looking forward to being at the games this season, especially August 30.

Surprising they would want to leave such a genuine and relatable person as Coach Brian Kelly.

There are plenty of places to find rosters and player bios so a transfer is no different from a freshman. Coaches have numbers for each position and the Portal is a tool to get to those numbers. Bottom line, college football is different with how get you to your roster but every coach tries to get the best players he can or his time at a school will be short.

Those have been the two most important changes impacting our recruiting lately.

Your recruiting classes were better in 2020 and 2021 than any you have gotten since. The Covid derailed us theory is bunk. The transfer portal is why yall have dipped a little. Players leaving but only being replaced by HS recruits. It does look like Dabo is rebounding and dipping his toe into the portal now which is good. Coaches have to adapt. Thats what made Saban so good for so long.

You are reading it wrong. ADAPTING made Saban so good. Saban wanted to run a single back pro-style offense that controlled the ball and then he wanted to play smothering defense on the other end. That Formula got him to the top of the mountain and kept him there until about 2014. Then he lost a couple of games to OSU, Ole Miss, and Auburn and realized that by the current rules of college football, the offense has the advantage. RPOs are incredibly hard to stop when run correctly and you couple that with modern passing concepts it becomes very difficult to defend. No longer could he lean on his D to hold everyone to under 17 points. This meant that he has to adapt or die. In 2014 he hired Lane Kiffin and ushered in the spread offense. His defense was still good but they weren't quite as dominant as his 2009-2012 defenses BUT he was equipped to score with the best of them.
And if you want a backhanded adaptation, Saban was in the NIL game starting in 2007. lol.

Dipping into the portal is what made Saban good? Didn't he win like all of his national titles before the transfer portal and NIL was even a thing?

Read my reply above. Sorry if I was unclear. Adapting is what made Saban good.

I'd say our 2020 class being basically 100% busts is what led to our dip in performance 2021 - 23.
Coupled with the worst streak of injuries in dabo's tenue.

and character evaluators. Not being able to visit players and families and have them visit removed that advantage and resulted in a number of bad misses by us as well as the ratings services evaluations of players.

Live by the sword, die by the sword! I believe that the trend that is starting to emerge is that as long as the transfer players are playing for a championship, they will continue to play hard and not opt out of games. If they are not competing for championships, then you have a Florida State style debacle.

Glad to see we have a smart one here from LSU to help us all….

Sounds about right. People in Louisiana have a long history of being thrown out of everywhere. That’s how they wound up in a swamp. Nobody else wanted to live in a swamp so they finally had a place of their own. Don’t know why their football team would be any different.

That is why they had the #1 transfer class and spent a ton of money bringing g them in. Kelley is on the hot seat. It is now or never for him so he used some of his on money to buy this transfer class. It’s like putting money on Red hoping you win. If so and he keeps his job he will make more than spent on the future. Coaches trying to buy their job security also.
