We hadn't put up their sweet water feeder yet and now we feel badly.

Still unreal a teeny bird with a teeny brain (don't say it!) can fly from one continent to another after being away for 6-9 months and can find that old sugar water feeder again.

We are starting to believe that the ones from the gulf may not come this season at all, or
they will be very late?? For several years we start seeing the males arrive early in May to
be ready for the females to arrive but not a single one yet this year. Something to do with
rain for wild flowers on their route??

WoW!! You must have some slow fliers, mine returned in late April. There are now 8/10 of the little buggers and they drain a 2 cup feeder in about a day.

May be influenced by where a person is located. I am at Holden Beach.

Hummingbird School is not out till end of July, then they go to the Beach.

Old timers arrived about a month ago. Had some early birds passing through since late April.

Birds' sense of location is astounding. Not just where your feeder is after 1,000's of miles but exactly where, including height off the ground and proximity to structures. Little brains tuned into some earth magnetics or something.
