Dabo’s commitment to his players is of what makes Clemson special for young men.

It’’s part of what it means when you decide to wear the Paw.
It’s the other half of what All-In truly means.
The dismissal of this by so many here is what IS typical. A cynical, win at all cost man does not run Clemson Football.
After reading David’s piece on where we stand on scholarships, it made me proud. This man never wavered on the issue, and those seniors who chose to return would have never done so without the culture, yes culture, that Dabo built at Clemson. The commitment to scholarship athletes is a foundational element of that culture.
Here’s the real problem statement:
We have a vocal segment of Clemson fans who care only about winning. That is all. If they perceive any decision that isn’t completely aligned with winning, no matter the cost, the coaches aren’t doing their jobs.
For those that don’t share that mindset, I guess it’s up to us to ensure it remains what it is; the loud, meaningless rantings of an inconsequential few.

Out of curiosity, who's going to pay NIL to players who can't *quite* make the 85-man roster?

The roster limit for most of college football is 105 players, 20 of which can be walk-ons. So, it'd not necessary for the 2 or 3 walk-ons who may be dropped from scholarship to be booted from the roster. The only question (for them) is if they will have to pay their tuition out of their own pocket - or can/will an entity other than Clemson (NIL perhaps) pick up the cost so they can continue to be in school at no cost. If they can afford tuition on their own, they can remain in school as a walk-on.

I think Swinney's salary would suggest that winning is pretty important. He has a right to give a scholarship to whoever he wants. However, if we start losing games due to roster mismanagement, then it's a problem.

Agree. Much rather have what Dabo does as opposed to Coach Prime Time, who is already trying to run off the guys who JUST TRANSFERRED to him. What a mess. Also makes for a toxic environment to try to play in.

The goal is 100% to win. Stop with this nonsense. At some point, Dabo is going to have to start utilizing the transfer portal. Our recruiting is off and as soon as we start losing games we shouldn’t again, it will force him to grab transfers. 100%

after football. Dabo believes the overall development of the individual is more important than just the football playing. That creates an environment that many of these young men have never experienced before, and why they stay after they get a degree. I wonder what percentage of players have used their Covid year, although they have a degree, but just want to play the game they love one more year?
I think Dabo has said when it isn't about developing the individual, and only about winning (paraphrasing here) he will quit.

Thought about this today and it’s frustrating sometimes when you look around the country at the make up of the elite schools roster. But you are right Dabo is all about the commitment to his guys can never fault him for that. Means a lot and rare in todays world. I’m the first one to complain about him not hitting the portal for a receiver or o-line but it’s gotta carry some weight to go to a kid’s house and look him in the eyes and tell him we won’t hit the portal to replace you if you give us the same level of commitment that we give to you

You can have the culture, be committed to players, and not put Clay Sweeney on a scholarship.

Clay Swinney(correctly spelled) is not on scholarship. He is a preferred walk-on.

I spelled it correctly.
The point is, that Dabo is responsible for roster management, the development and recruitment of players.
You can be all those things you mentioned (and I am proud of him for that). And still have a WR group that's not this bad.

Also, since you bring up Clay Swinney, here’s some more information on him and his contributions to the program.

Their only emotional tie to Clemson is the football team. When the team fails so does their dedication.
