Dabo will suspend him for 2 games....

May 6, 2012, 1:12 PM

Sucks that this happened but we should be okay. Auburn is down and I think with our overall talent we will beat them without Sammy.

Put him down for the first two. go ahead and do it now and lets not let this turn into a big fiasco. he misses auburn and a nobody team. he will still get one cupcake game in before the road trip to FSU. thats when he will be needed.

I doubt it. Not sure if a player has ever been suspended

for a game due to a first offense off season misdemeanor possession charge.

The auburn game is HUGE for us. First game of the season, national coverage, in the GA dome dome vs. an SEC opponent. It's outcome I believe will carry serious implications of how our entire season will play out. It is for these reasons I think just sitting him this game will be fair. If the first two games were cupcakes, then I say 2...but in this case, one is enough

If you're saying a punishment is excessive because of a game, then you are worried about the wrong thing.

Yeah, Auburn is an important game and all, but you have to have team discipline. We can't have players think they are above the rules because a big game is coming up. I'm not talking about just Sammy here, either; I honestly don't think there will be a problem with him again.

Dabo has to set a bar where it doesn't matter who you are or who we're playing, if you do something against the rules, you will be punished for it. Everybody has to be held accountable for their actions.

So I may or may not have only read your first sentence, but either way, my point is the same; it shouldn't matter who we are playing for the game(s) Sammy (or any other player for that matter) is suspended for. Each game is just as much of a chance to show NFL scouts, Heisman voters, etc how good you are. If anything, the cupcake games are worse to miss since in theory, the defender you are going up against isn't as good, so you should be able to catch more balls and get more yardage (in Sammy's position at least) to add to your stats.

agreed....this is a life lesson not about a game***

Huh? I said he should be punished and sit a HUGE game for us....I was just making the point that missing the Auburn game would be equivalent to missing two cupcake games. Never once did I say he shouldn't be punished or get away with breaking the rules...the punishment must fit the crime

Got to sit him for the Auburn game or the punishment is a

joke to the media and the kids and they will know it. They will see selective punishment because of the nature of the game and the talent of the player. Got to sit him.

I agree..he should sit the auburn game and move on***

Re: Dabo will suspend him for 2 games....

That would be both extremely excessive and stupid on Dabo's part. If Dabo were to do something that dumb for a trivial offense, then I would question his ability to lead our football team.

Repeat offenders are one thing. However, this is something entirely different. If it were my decision, I would suspend him for a half. I'd be ok if Dabo suspended him for a full game. However, 2 games would be completely ridiculous.

i am thinking about maybe only a half of a game..i mean 1st offense, he can get this expunged from his file with a little mercy from the courts and a decent lawyer..you do something "in house" and if it ever became a problem again your suspension will be alot tougher..You dont throw him under the bus for a simple offense
