Dabo Swinney & Danny Ford

I have not seen anything written about this, but Dabo will tie Danny Ford in number of wins at Clemson with the Tigers next win. Dabo has a record of 95-28 and Danny Ford had a record at Clemson of 96-29-4. Danny went on to Arkansas and had a career record of 122-59-5

Danny Ford did not just decide to leave Clemson...he was forced to leave due to recruiting violations during his tenure causing NCAA sanctions. Clemson had to hire a coach with a squeaky clean recruiting record, as there was real concern that further violations could lead to the death penalty. It was a very painful time in Clemson history, and led to years of mediocre play in football. The Clemson administration even had some discussions of doing away with football, as the University took great pride in academic excellence and felt that image was tarnished. I remember this dark period well, and always felt that Clemson was only investigated because it won the National Championship, even though they were not a blue blood in sports.

able to do that Coach Ford did. Being a former O Lineman, I think, Danny was able to recruit slightly better offensive lineman than Dabo and co. But Dabo has recruited receivers like it's no ones business. Coach ford had a hard time getting highly recruited wideouts consistently while Dabo, Jeff, and Tony (all former-wrs) have turned us in WRU.
I think also Coach Ford's Olineman had an edge and maybe a benefit to having Coach ford teach them different techniques that he learned as an elite lineman.

I don't think he could meet entrance requirements and I heard we steered him to Tenn so he wouldn't go to SC. Bit us in the butt in 1974 when he ran out of bounds and back in to catch a TD pass and then a 2pt play to beat us 29-28. Red Parker on his show said he couldn't comment on officials, but notice the 3 Tenn linemen in the end zone on the 2pt play!

96-29 type of record. But here he is 95-28 and Ford was 96-29-4. That is really an amazing job by both.
