If he is smart, he will announce his retirement. Most contract buyouts have a retirement clause. He could most likely retire for 1 or 2 seasons take a break, and then coach somewhere else.

But if next year is as bad as many of us fear, I could see him being let go after next season.
He surely bought himself some time due to his immense success from 2015-2020, but when you consider our slide the last four years plus what we are seeing now, he is not immune from firing forever.

but at least his teams play hard and typically overachieve.
We have had many big wins in hoops the last few years. How many have we had in football?
It’s all about what the coach is doing with what he has, in context of his program’s history as well as their competition. The reality is that Brad has overachieved lately while Dabo has underachieved.

said about Dabo now. DABO! After winning two national hampionships and I can't remember how many conference championships, people are talking about getting rid of him. And you idgits try to defend Bradley from attacks when HE HAS WON NOTHING AT ALL.
We are Clemson. We want to win. Win the right way. Not be mediocre.

Dabo will walk away before he is fired. I’m hoping he is now realizing the same thing that Saban said about him. The game is not the same and he is going to have to change with it to be successful. More than just changing coordinators and taking transfers. The changes he would have to make are philosophically different than what he has always stood for and what has made him successful. His number one focus will need to be putting players in the NFL instead of preparing them to be successful husbands and fathers. The graduation rates that he has been so proud of will suffer. He is just going to have to decide if he can change his philosophy to what it will take to be the best in this environment. It’s now totally about how much money a player can make playing football instead of what kind of person they will be outside of football. If he is not able or willing to make that philosophical change, at some point he will simply walk away like Saban did. And I really wouldn’t be surprised to see that happen. And if he has come to that realization, I believe we will see which way he decides to go very soon.

Agree the playing field has shifted. And agree rhettfla Dabo has always focused on the "well-rounded man" -- both athletically talented and academically willing.
I believe if Dabo's willing to pull back a bit from the impressive graduation numbers, there could be a middle ground for him to help and mentor some young men currently outside Dabo's recruiting profile.

The graduation thing is a little bit of an excuse. OSU & Bama rank higher. Wisconsin & ND are close at much more selective schools. And c’mon Clemson isn’t spitting out brain surgeons from the FB program. That argument is kinda weak.

I agree that would be a reasonable position.
But if you’re Dabo and going to have to fundamentally change your core beliefs about the student athlete model, why not just go to the pros?
I’m not an insider but he looked like very disillusioned man to me at the press conference.

Well said. I don’t think and it seems pretty obvious he isn’t willing to do that. I don’t think I want him to either. Everyone praised him for how he won earlier and how he wasn’t like everyone else. Now, everyone wants to do what everyone else is doing. I want to win but will not sale my soul to do it! My two cents.

What % of the football team is made up of legitimate Clemson students? 10% maybe? So what’s so admirable about the pretend degree program for the pretend students on the team? I know everybody did it, but what’s so great about it?
At least the portal weeds out those who can’t even survive the phony degrees. You get grad students. They may have matured enough to take that MBA or MS seriously. AND they’ve already proven their value. Why does Dabo hate on them? It makes no sense.

I’ve never understood why bringing in nonstudents to play football, hang around for 5 yrs & then maybe graduate with a bogus degree is morally superior to bringing in college grads to get grad degrees while playing football.
The second way allows decent students to get the grad degree they actually need to be successful. The other way you bring in mostly unserious students & try to drag them through to the easiest possible BA without ever really learning much.
The portal brings in mature guys who are very strong & proven on the field & in the classroom. I don’t see what’s so horrible. ND uses it to great effect & I really don’t see CU as all that superior to ND in terms of academic seriousness.

I agree with your post. But my question now is that does this reflect a change in philosophy for us (the fanbase) as well? Everyone is all in with Dabo building "successful husbands and fathers". But is that only when Clemson is winning? Do we have to sacrifice one for the other? I'd like to think not. but really not sure anymore.
Was it Vandy's coach this weekend that said he was hired to be a football coach first everything else is secondary? (or something to that effect)
