As long as it's not in a situation like DW4 to where TL makes magic in a hostile territory only to never see the field until it's too far out of hand like UGA, I'm Ok with that

Most figured that much. Baring injury, KB will start Furman, and has always been the case...but all will play in that one. Sounds like expected....just watch how the live games go and the performance of each. That will be where decisions will be getting made, mainly because it'll be where all can see the difference. Just hope KB has improved in the mid-o-deep passing...will be necessary regardless who ends up starting throughout the season...if TL even gets it and KB comes in for special packages, he'll still need to be able to make the throws so defenses don't just load the box when he trots onto the field.

Has Dabo ever said the older QB didn’t have a great camp? He made Cole Stoudt sound like Tom Brady.

...and 2 new coordinators and a QB coach he didn't have helping all season and coaching to his strengths. Yeah, that was the first game of Elliott, Scott, and Streeter all 3 coaching without Morris.

I don't recall him being hurt vs FSU when he missed wide open Leggett at the end zone and was replaced by DW4, FWIW. Being healed did help, but the coaching and play call difference was a bigger difference. That was the only game Cole played to his strengths and didn't run a Deshaun Watson play calling.

Only one thing the team wouldn’t survive:

Whichever of the QBs isn’t happy with his playing time or starts need not hang his head and check out mentally. That cost us the GT game with Stoudt. He was so upset about losing out to DW, he ignored the importance of putting the team first. I bring the his up only because of KB’s body language on the sideline at the spring game. A leader leads by example, and there were three leaders and one sulking toddler that day. If what Dabo says is accurate - and who outside the team really knows at this point - we’ll be just fine. Senior leader starting and young gun making highlights. Can’t wait to see how it plays out. Go Tigers!

I am not a coot
The propaganda at this time of year is all too familiar
It remains to be seen if Dabo will play the better QB
He is 0-3 IMO and I'm not including Chad Kelly in that stat

Right? He's such a terrible coach. Him going 0-3 on choosing the right QB has resulted in so much misery and many losing seasons for us. Time to clean house!

I just wonder how much better KB would have been last year if he had had dependable receivers like DW4 had his last year, and how much difference this year's talented group will make. IMO, Ray Ray and Cain should have stayed. But they were not as talented as Williams, Leggett and others. I just watched what I could stand of the Sugar Bowl and was once again reminded of the early game drop of Cain's that cost us a first down, better field position and momentum. How confident can you be when one of your primary receivers doesn't catch a ball that is right in his hands. Whoever is the QB this year, or whomever they are, it seems certain the receiving core will be better, as will the running backs. Let's hope they have learned to block and protect the QB though. Something else KB didn't have a lot of last year, which led to his scrambling and running. Just my armchair thoughts.
Go Tigers.

This is a point that gets overlooked or ignored.

Mike Williams and Jordan Leggett made marvelous catches on balls that Deshaun Watson simply put somewhere in their area.
Those catches were the difference in winning and losing.
Not one person made a spectacular catch for Kelly Bryant in the Alabama game.
In fact, not only did they fail to make big catches, they made critical drops that killed our momentum while the game was still on the line.

Because of Williams and Leggett, Renfrew and Scott were never double covered. Dw4 was magnificent at getting the ol in the correct protection.

I see your point. Mike and Leggett were difference makers but let's also remember deshaun put up monster numbers against Bama in 2015 without Williams. He had a very similar group of receivers as Kelly had last year in skill set. Not saying the receivers last year were world beaters but they weren't trash either.

this all points to TL becoming the QB at some time during the season.KB could take off and because an Heisman candidate . .but if things go as we most think they will, TL will won the job. Dabo is practically saying this.

This situation reminds me of the Chris Leak / Tim Tebow scenario at Florida. Established starter and winner in Chris Leak but a superstar freshman nipping at his heals. Worked out pretty well that year for Florida if I remember correctly.

I like what Dabo is saying and I think the only way to figure out who plays as the starter against NC State, FSU, Louisville, GA Tech and the Coots (although anybody could play qb against them and we win), is to judge it based on real game situations. The only thing I worry about is Kelly’s mindset when he hears the standing ovation and cheers for Trevor each time he comes in. KB needs to focus on what he can do and not let us fans persuade him that he is not the guy who should be playing. If he can do that, and hit the downfield passes and not tuck and run so much, then he may keep the job.

I trust Dabo and this staff. This team will win, and win big. I predict Dabo's second Ring will be added this year, mark it down that i called it on this date...
To all the naysaying idiots that think you know more about the QB situation than this staff, Superman himself could not have had success behind the offensive line's play during the playoff game, they simply were not prepared either mentally or with the correct game plan for Roll Turds.Add to that the abysmal performance of the receivers not named Hunter Renfrow, and you have the outcome we saw, and yet our defense still rolled their offense better than any team the entire year.
Kelly Bryant is a fine young man and a superb athlete. We frankly would not have made it to the playoffs without him.He deserves his 1st place spot, and I hope and pray that he plays the entire year, wins the heisman, and leads us to the national championship. Remember that Dabo Swinney is in the business of building men. Loyalty to your men is quite frankly, more important than winning a game-these leadership qualities are why Dabo and staff are continuing to recruit the young men they do, and will continue to put Tiger football in the top tier of college football as long as he is head coach.Any man(recruit) worth his salt can see what Dabo is all about, and believe me, it makes a difference, compare to the self-serving Meyers and Sabans of the world.
True fans will rally around KB and this team. the rest of you can suck it

This is Dabo's way of telling us there will be no QB competition because it doesn't matter what transpires here to for in practice, KB will be the starter.

To where we at least now know for sure from the coach's mouth that multiple QBs will be playing. I'm assuming the Renfrow thing at QB was a joke, but if not I'm gonna have to say let's not do that unless we are up like 35 points...that sounds like a risky experiment.

Dabo is basically buying time to make a decision.
Aug 14, 2018, 8:06 PM
|
|
Which isn't completely unfair, since the only real way to judge performance is in a real game.
It seems obvious that Bryant will start, and Lawrence and Brice will play. I expect that Bryant's improvement will be evident since last year, because he's been working hard and because we are playing Furman. I also anticipate that his performance on intermediate and long passes won't be as impressive as Dabo makes it sound in his comments. Sure, Bryant can occasionally hit one when he's in the groove, but can he consistently do it? I have my doubts, but I hope I'm wrong.
I also expect that Lawrence will have some dazzling moments and also some mistakes. There is no way he can be perfect from the outset, but it isn't unreasonable that he will settle in after a few games and be dynamic.
We have a great problem here, folks.
