At the closing of his comments, he asked us to donate to one of the Clemson NIL collectives. Thoughts?

What would be great is to find a big Tiger fan that brings in about 10m per year and get him to donate about 3m per year to one of the NIL funds. It would still leave him 7m. That would get some great recruits and put Tigers in the top five.

His concern is that it is currently unregulated which emboldens misuse and tampering.

Always has. He just wants to do it the right way. That's why he has set up a division in the athletic department to assist and counsel kids.
He knows the right way to do it does not include playing an 18 year old kid a million bucks before he has ever taken a snap.

trolling twit.
He is against paying student-athletes to play college football as professionals, though. He has always supported both stipends and allowing kids to earn money on their own while in school, and was on the forefront of creating a department within the program to help kids develop their branding and NIL opportunities at its inception. Is he going to embrace the bidding war approach to kids out of high school, or maybe the portal, that some have participated in? No. Hopefully never. Does he sell a 'create your own NIL opportunity through production on the field' approach? He absolutely does, and has assisted in creating a top of the line mechanism to deliver that very thing.

When did he rant about NIL? He has criticized the “adults” involved for improper use (pay for play) and tampering but has said all along he supports the players’ ability to capitalize on their name, image and likeness, which is what NIL means, correct?
Nice spin, Stretch.

to rail against players being paid, even threatening to quit if that ever happened.
Not surprisingly, was criticized for this.
After the backlash, he tried to walk back his comments to say that he only meant that players shouldn’t be paid for playing football, but should be allowed to earn money for their name, image, and likeness.
More recently, he has talked about our program being about “God’s NIL” which also drew criticism.
You can’t blame people for thinking that Dabo isn’t a big fan of NIL.
This is much like his rants on the transfer portal, including the fact that he doesn’t like it and that his transfer portal is in our locker room. Of course, following the backlash he tried to compensate by saying that we will use the portal if necessary. Again, the damage was done.
So I’m not spinning anything. Dabo’s comments are readily available if you want to read them or listen to them. He hasn’t portrayed himself as a player’s coach lately with these comments, and unfortunately I think that’s impacted our recruiting some.

Honestly, I'm not a supporter of pay-to-play and never will be. I don't mind putting forth donations toward scholarships or programs that grow the education base or even support athletics with resources that improve the quality, welfare, and abilities of our student-athletes, but the whole pay-to-play idea through NIL is where I personally draw the line when it comes to my money.
If a young man wants to grow his brand he now has the opportunity to market himself to those who can benefit from his brand and I will let those folks put up the money for it.

NIL has been completely kidnapped. It was never intended to be "pay for play". It was for the vultures that were getting rich off athletes name, image, and likeness from continuing to enrich themselves at by using something that did not belong to them (NIL) and denying payment to the one that deserved it..

Nope. Not me. Been giving more than I should to IPTAY for a long time. About to be priced out of our parking space. It may be time to walk away. I hope they know what they are doing and have enough fans to replace the ones they are driving away.

as a former student athlete at Clemson, I am not opposed to payments for players.
What I am opposed to is these payments being totally unregulated which promotes a culture of misuse and abuse.
I am already paying quite a bit to IPTAY annually and have been for 30+ years, and I feel very blessed that I've been able to do that, but asking people to support both IPTAY and NIL is a big ask and I suspect a lot of folks would be disinclined or simply unable to do that, particularly in this economic climate. If the University isn't careful, they're going to price people right out of the market.

I'm not opposed to the athlete putting forth the effort to leverage his/her NIL to create some financial opportunity for themselves. What I am opposed to is a neglectful NCAA for allowing the universities to be a part of that promotion. All of this is exactly as Dabo predicted where it simply becomes a financial arms race to see who can raise and offer the most money for top talent to come and play for them.
I may have to live with the professionalization of college athletics but I certainly don't have to personally fund it.

something is worth whatever someone is willing to pay. You can't "regulate" a company from saying..........."Hey Mr. 5star we're willing to pay you $5million if you sign autographs for an hour"
there will not be any regulation..........it sucks, but it's the sad truth.

You regulate the university's involvement from helping them find deals and let the athlete promote themselves. The NCAA opened that door and should have locked it shut.

Agreed. I dont have it to give even if I wanted to.
401k has been a shizz show, groceries and gas is ridiculous and on top of that I did my taxes and now owe the government another chunk on top of what I already owed them. Things are not looking great for RHPLTMEG. ?

Not doing it. I already give a sizable amount to IPTAY to support Clemson and its student athletes through scholarships and the payment of expenses in the AD.
I would think that their pool of potential NIL donors is not a separate group of folks, but the are mostly the same folks that are already facing a considerable seat equity value increase for IPTAY 2023.
It is one thing to ask people to dig deeper and give more when things are going great...like coming off a national championship season. But the last two years have been very average and frustrating, including the inexplicable loss to the chickens and several no shows on the field (I'm thinking of Notre Dame and Tennessee).
I'll continue to support IPTAY, but won't give a dime to NIL entities that pay student athletes.
But, hey, if others feel compelled to do it, I'm all for that!

Already doing it, in increments of $2 bills with a tiger paw stamped across TJ's face, to each recruit target once when I decide that I like them, and again when they get their diploma. The tax deduction alone for the value added of the tiger paw, envelopes, postage, and administrative effort is more than the value of the money. Y'all need to get on bored.

This is the second time in a few months Dabo has shilled the collectives and it's because it's the new reality and we need it. NIL and NIL Collective basically means "college football fans crowdfunding player salaries." Never what NIL was supposed to be.
All that donated IPTAY money has to start going to TigerImpact or DearOldClemson and this is why TigerImpact hired IPTAY's former director or CEO.
It's really kinda a sham. University is keeping all the revenue football makes and re-distributing it to the other sports. Very economically Communist if you think about it.
We all have to start doing a $20/mo tigerImpact subscription along with your Netflix, Disney+, etc.
