Current State Of Recruiting

22

Jul 5, 2023, 9:55 AM

I can't help thinking back to all the posts this past spring bashing our recruiting. Especially the gamecock sympathizers that were doing it. I just looked at the average per player rankings on Rivals and we're currently 4th at 3.79

We're the only team in the top 4 that has a 2-star kicker counting against us. You take him off the list and we're sitting 2nd behind Ohio State at 3.92 compared to their 3.94

Also Wesco and Brown will probably be bumped up to 5-stars at some point.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Like where we're at right now, but we still gotta close with Matthews and some other big names if we wanna finish top 10ish.

It will be difficult to finish much higher than we are when signing less than 20.

I don’t know why the recruiting sites don’t adjust the “star rating” for special teams criteria. Kickers are important, yet don’t get the overall rating they deserve.
From everything I’ve read about our kicker, he would be rated a strong 4-star if measured by positional ability.

I agree, kicking has their own ranking system and probably should be excluded because of that. As I understand it, our guy is a 5* under the kicking ranking system.

The fact that we have a top kicker bringing down our rank

4

Jul 5, 2023, 11:13 AM

because of the stars

means that the whole class ranking is a flawed metric. Only thing that matters is culture and coaches.

I have never complained about recruiting. I have complained that NIL and BIG and SEC money will ruin our recruiting in near future, if we stay in ACC.

Exactly right!
It's never as bad as some people paint it.
Clemson will be fine as long as Dabo Swinney is head coach in ther recruiting department. I would even say, beyond that. Besides Georgia, Alabama and I guess LSU what other school in the last 10 years has done it consistently that the kids coming up "NOW" know about. Too often, the ghost from Poll era schools come up. Clemson has these kids of the right now generation who were in elementary, middle school when we were dominating the sport.

We will be fine and only will improve. Especially, if we can crank up the offense again! And, I think we will this season!

Silly post of the day. In the spring our recruiting was dragging so folks commented about it. Just like the last two years our offense sucked and folks commented on it. Basically it’s how a message board works in addition to drunk messaging…

You would argue with a stop sign. There were people on here complaining that our coaches couldn't recruit with the big dogs anymore.

All I need to see is his current class, his next class, and the production his backs have been giving on the field.

And you trying to be a recruiting expert is really sad. Spiller hadn't been on the job long enough to establish relationships.

Also when a guy as talented as Mafa doesn't get that many touches cause Ship is a beast, that doesn't bode well for playing time...especially since both were just starting their careers during that time. I'm quite sure top level RB's took that into consideration. CJ has grown into a good recruiter IMHO

So

Jul 6, 2023, 8:13 AM [ in reply to Re: Current State Of Recruiting ]

Recruiting dipped for awhile but now its better so everyone that discussed the downturn in recruiting while it was happening was/is an idiot or something? That's interesting logic.

Keep up with the entire thread. The crying was happening during a time that we had more commits than EXACTLY one year prior.

Yes some fans were concerned we would not regain our footing after a couple of less than stellar seasons and NIL. Most of those fans are super thankful they had underestimated Dabo. Regardless, calling out fellow tigers because they they posted their (at the time) feelings on a topic while overlooking the times you have posted and been wrong is childish at best.

The posts I'm referring to wasn't simply voicing concerns. It was posts calling out coaches and bragging about Scar recruiting. Especially when we had more commits on the list than we did exactly one year prior.

bowlhunter® I think you got it right. I've been on here and have seen the post you are referring to as well.

People; I think lose perspective at times because of the consistency of the Clemson football program. NIL and everything else; will get resolved. Clemson will still be a fantastic place to play your college ball! I think the NIL madness is starting to normalize a bit and recruits understand money is green in Georgia, South Carolina, Texas or California and any points between. So, why not go to a place I like and get NIL money and good coaching and preparation for the next level?

Clemson has nothing to hang its head about in terms of turning out NFL prospects! So, kids will keep coming! These kids were what middle school was when we won our last one. They understand the powers of college football not to be those schools with dusty: sports writers of the North and Mid-west gave them NC, are the school's football programs who have done it while they have been alive.
All that other stuff is nothing to them.
Clemson will be and is going to be fine in recruiting!

**I have wondered out loud if Dabo needs to modify his stance on "type of kid". But, at the end of the day, I think his approach is best! Keep kids who have shown respect for themselves and others and who want to work!

it's ok to point out that recruiting was slow then rejoice when it picks up. I think sometimes we forget that we are all on the same team here. Just be happy.
