curious question

11

Jun 13, 2023, 12:50 PM

I drive a 2016 F-150 FX and have noticed, even with my headlights on dim, a lot of oncoming vehicles will high-beam their headlights as if my lights are on bright. I have even waited on them to see me and dim my lights in plenty of time and still they will high-beam me. Do other F-150 owners have the same problem?

I do as well. 2016 F-150 XLT with base tires and rims, so nothing out of the ordinary. I usually get 1-2 flashes back at me each time I drive at night. I'd like to upgrade to a slightly better bulb in them for my own vision, but afraid I'll blind even more drivers.

Did you have a leveler kit added to lift the front? You may need to lower your low beam angle slightly or if you run fog lamps they can be annoying sometimes.

I noticed on my Z71 Tahoe I would get flashed more often when towing my boat as the vehicle was squatting a little.

no...nothing special. Just a normal truck.

Your beam is angled up into their line of site. It was probably bumped at some point inadvertently. There should be an adjustment to correct the angle!

Dumbest trend ever. They made it illegal in NC from what I read.

Not only is it dumb, it's dangerous and looks ridiculous

I've seen 70K+ diesel trucks with the front end jacked up in the air. Oil pumps and driveshafts weren't made to function that way. It's a good way to ruin a vehicle. Daddy's money, I guess.

The height of the vehicle and angle of the lights make it seem to other cars your high beams are on. I have this problem even with a frontier.

My F-150 is a 2017 and I don’t have that problem. Maybe they fixed it the next model year.

Me thinks the height of your truck puts the light beam at eye level for sedans and smaller vehicles. Now days head light bulbs just seem brighter than 20 yrs ago.

I get bright lighted nightly with the same issue. My 2500 GMC pickup does sit up high compared to other vehicles and it’s usually vehicles lower to the ground like Honda Accords complaining. I did have a state trooper briefly turn on his blue light one night going down 418 I’m guessing thinking I had my brights on. I’ve just got used to it now

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I bought my wife a Pilot and we get the same thing.

It's the halogen that make people think they are high beam. I rather enjoy it because when the beam me then I treat them to an even better blindness. I like to pay it forward.

Back when SC had safety inspections, headlamp level was a big part of it and my truck needed adjustment more than once. You might check that out.
