Is there a conference that would take Clemson?

From reading Phillips ideas today about the future of the ACC (although I doubt the schools would approve it), it seems like he is #### bent on punishing Clemson and FSU. But, the problem exists, would the SEC or Big 10 take either Clemson or FSU? From what I have read, the Big 10 is probably not taking Clemson, a non-starter would be the lack of the AAU designation, note Nebraska had this designation when they joined and are in the process of getting the designation back. It's my understanding the FSU is also in the process of getting the certification. So as Clemson fans, we're pretty much stuck with four possibilities: 1) remain in the ACC, and watch from the sidelines as the SEC and Big 10 take more power, 2) join the SEC, would South Carolina put a stop in on this, and would Clemson be the choice over UNC, and perhaps Virginia (you could insert a couple of schools here), in regards to tv markets. 3) Merge with the Big 12, in this scenario, a few schools would have to go from both leagues, such as Wake, and Kansas State. 4)Go Indy, it has worked for ND, but we don't have the massive TV deal they have, and a conference like the ACC that has become an enabler for ND to remain Indy. The whole situation is a mess, but I don't see this getting better going forward, the Big 2 (SEC and BIG 10) are going to reach the point where they demand 4 spots each in the playoffs.

Bell Cow in the revenue sport of football. Same with FSU. Conference should dissolve and come back as something new and smaller. Shed dead weight and become a 10 team league playing 9 conference games each year( play everyone).

My nine members would be:

Clemson
FSU
UNC
NC State
Virginia Tech
Ga Tech
Miami
Louisville
Virginia (hard for me to put them in, but figure UNC would demand it and its better for Va Tech)

Hard for me to leave out Pitt and Syracuse as they are decent teams.
Duke and Wake have been better than UNC and NC State, but how long will that last
Dont care about Cal or Stanford
feel bad for SMU
BC - who cares

Is your "also" referring to Nebraska or Clemson?

I don’t think we go anywhere until there is a major reorganization across the board. If we were to go sooner, your option 3 currently feels like the most likely. SEC and B1G seemingly are showing little interest in adding us but perhaps no one wants to tip their hand until we are free and clear of the ACC which doesn’t feel very close right now.

Clemson, FSU, Ga Tech, Louisville, Miami, UNC, NC State, Pitt, SMU, Syracuse and Va Tech should vote to disband the ACC and reform together as a football heavier conference. Invite West Va in for #12. Create 2 divisions of old Big East and old ACC (w/SMU as we only have 5 worth a ####) and get back to work without all of the other football dead weight anchoring our brand, product, and media rights revenue down.

The BIG 12 leadership is certainly more forward thinking and innovative than the ACC.

and working with Clemson athletics for three decades, I can tell you it’s not about how worthy our school is, or even how great our athletics is perceived. It’s about television revenue. And the Greenville Spartanburg market is not a large enough market to add value to any existing Conference that we would want to be a part of. That does not mean there isn’t a major conference that would not want us, but it’s an obstacle (lack of revenue) they would have to agree to ignore.

from what I understand. It’s eyes. Clemson is top 25, and that’s during a downturn.

The AAU should be dead. No such thing as amateur college athletes anymore.

If it's about viewership, then we are good. UVA and UNC suck in this department.

Where is this argument coming from? The B1G could care less about credentials. Any conference would bend over backwards to welcome in Clemson. One of three relevant programs in the last 12 years. Period. Won more Natty’s in 12 years than all B1G programs combined. SMH. Yeah. No one wants a bonafide stud.

If you look at the numbers Clemson is definitely the best team available for any of the other conferences. Especially after FSU just had the worst year of any of the power 4 conferences.

Personally, I believe if the SEC was going to expand again Clemson would be in their next expansion bc they wouldn't want to risk the Big grabbing us up!!!
