The “Dabo finally learned what we have known all along and started to use the portal but it’s a shame he wasted 4 years before he did” crowd.

So far Dabo's most effective use of the portal was...

kicking DJ's butt into it.

We got three portal players this season. I wouldn't call that a big turnaround and it's sure not repentance or having given up his will to a bunch of nancies on Tnet.

It's hard to imagine even the most lunatic fan could not recognize the need to add a DE from the portal last spring. There were other needs but that is the most glaring.

The real issue is what happened to the last recruiting class. We lost eight commits and quick fell out of favor from several recruits who really liked Clemson. Not using the portal means HS recruiting is critical to the health of the program. We lose many of our star (read difference makers) after this season and there are not many answers currently on the roster.

Thoughts about the Portal start and end with, there is a reason the vast majority of players end up in the football Portal, they find out they are not as good as they thought they were. Sure there will be a small number of legit guys who jump in and wind up making a difference but that number is small compared to those going into the Portal. Colorado is not a great example because they won largely because of the players Neon Deion brought with him, including maybe the best 2 players in the NFL draft this year.

Spring Game Date

I hope they are considering other state events when making their plans for the spring game...

As long as they don't do April 5th I'm good.

I just can't remember if they have done it during the Cooper River bridge run in the past... I don't do the bridge run often, but most of my family wants to do it this year. Azalea festival in Summerville is that weekend as well. Attendance will suffer if they choose that Saturday for the spring game.

I still think there is way too much focus on what happened to FSU. There are many success stories too. To me the biggest issue with portal management is with how you handle the outflow of talent. You can argue what you want about the talent available in the portal, but you can't survive if you are losing existing players and a large number of decommits from the incoming class. One thing powerhouse college programs have in common is roster depth and that's something Clemson does not have when you compare to a Georgia, Alabama, Texas, or OSU.
