VPI&SU locked Bud up in January of 2015, knowing they were showing Frank the door, by inking him to a 5-year deal through 2019.

Doubt the buyout for a DC 3 years into a 5 year contract would be that high. If he doesn’t go to Bama, it certainly will not be bc Bama could not afford to pay the buyout of a VPI assistant coach.
Would be because Saban is not interested or because Bud prefers to stay in Blacksburg for whatever reason.

happy together, have been happy together for 30 years, so much so that he was willing to stay on in light of interviewing for the HC job and not getting it...
Like I said, never is a very long time, so I don't use it and am fully aware Bama has SEC SEC SEC money to burn.

From what I've heard, Bud is a very interesting guy.. and perhaps has had some issues with substance abuse in the past. He seems to get by since he has been at VT so long but I think those sorts of issues would cause problems if he went somewhere else. That's a big reason he has never left to become a head coach.
