Martavis Bryant?? (For real or just another receiver)

Sep 5, 2012, 12:27 PM

I have heard so much hype on the 6'5 200 lb Martavis Bryant the last two years but #1 has not gained my respect yet. I wish that was not the case because a true soph. with that much athletic ability should of showed out and produced. I know he has two studs to play along side with Sammy and Nuk but I feel he is intimidated to let loose and play ball... Being in the Georgia Dome this past saturday I kept my eye on #1 and I was disappointed again. So, furthermore, does anyone have predictions on how Bryant will fair the rest of the season. I project 21 receptions with maybe 300 yards of receiving and 2 td's. Not terrible numbers I know but I just see so much more there.

I think he had the jitters.

Sep 5, 2012, 12:28 PM

I expect him to have a legit game saturday with some big plays.

Re: I think he had the jitters.

Sep 5, 2012, 12:34 PM

I agree. I think he just had a few butterflies in his stomach and wasn't thinking "clearly." I believe by the Florida St. game, he'll be top notch and will give the defense a fit.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Experienced sophs should not get jitters. Bad sign.***

Didn't he have a 30+ yard catch called back for an illegal shift penalty?

I believe you are correct but he also dropped another 30 yd pass to the redzone as well. Just hasnt showed out like Nuk or Sammy.

you are an idiot

Sep 5, 2012, 12:40 PM

for real players aren't expected to produce until their 3rd year on campus, he's only been here for a season and one game....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Re: you are an idiot

Sep 5, 2012, 12:50 PM

Glad you feel that way. If you are for real you produce instantly. There is no WOW moment from him yet. I played college football and understand the maturity factor of playing in your early years and trusting your ability. I was just stating that he looks like he shy's away from the lime light on the field yet. Until he proves that he is a gamer each week he will not have the same respect as Nuk and Sammy does sorry fella

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Players, esp WR's, often take a while to produce

Sep 5, 2012, 12:54 PM

Jacoby Ford comes to mind. Airese Curry as well.

There's a reason that there's only been three Freshman All-Americans in the history of the NCAA, and we have one of them in his 2nd year. Don't judge everybody by Sammy.

Re: Players, esp WR's, often take a while to produce

Sep 5, 2012, 12:58 PM

your right. just want to see him more as a gamer each week not a 1 or 2 catch guy.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you are so wrong. many freshmen WR play right away and

Sep 5, 2012, 1:06 PM [ in reply to Players, esp WR's, often take a while to produce ]

contribute. not having a freshman AA doesn't mean many haven't done well. its a factor of there being so many good WRs that to stand out as a freshman is hard. Bryant is far from standing out, he's not even doing the minimum expected of the coaches that do feel he is ready. No one is saying he should be another Sammy or Nuk, but he should catch balls that hit him in both hands.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: you are so wrong. many freshmen WR play right away and

Sep 5, 2012, 1:12 PM

alright if i can get 100 posters that tell you to quit posting by 12pm then you will step back from the keyboard and stop posting drivel towards MY Team and MY players?

He's MY player too and if the coaches play him, then he is

Sep 5, 2012, 1:21 PM

expected to perform, which means catching balls hitting him in the hands and numbers. So far this kid has been hype city. According to Dabo, as good or better than Sammy, which means he needs to step it up if he wants to stay on the field, esp as a sophomore.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: He's MY player too and if the coaches play him, then he is

Sep 5, 2012, 1:27 PM

Can you let the coaches make that decision then?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You always misquote and spin the truth.

Sep 5, 2012, 1:31 PM [ in reply to He's MY player too and if the coaches play him, then he is ]

According to Dabo he is faster than Sammy. Nobody believe he'll be as good as Sammy while he is in college.

I don't know why crump puts up with your dumping on Clemson.

I dont feel anybody is dumping on our Tigers but everybody has different opinions on situations... I just think the guy who called me a idiot for my post was a little immature but stuff happens lol

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: You always misquote and spin the truth.

Sep 5, 2012, 2:39 PM

If the coaches think you are ready and put you on the field, then it is fair to "expect" you to get open and to catch the ball. My feeling is Bryant will step up his play from here on out. If Not then humphries and seckinger must make their move.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You know, had you asked if

Sep 5, 2012, 2:40 PM [ in reply to Re: You always misquote and spin the truth. ]

our receivers were afraid of their first real hit of the season I would have agreed with you. I can totally understand that the first hit seems the hardest to take.

However, questioning a sophomore's determination after only one game into his second season knowing that he had limited playing time his freshman year seemed like dumping to me too. I'm not much for calling people idiots but I'll label someone a coot in a heartbeat if they write things that appear to divide Clemson by bashing a player.

Re: You know, had you asked if

Sep 6, 2012, 9:48 AM

Once again there was no bashing of Bryant, I just wanted to see him show out and not be a by stander on the field. I want him to succeed and go up and make big plays week in and out. I still root for anybody that I have doubts in no matter what. I still think coot alert is a little to much for the post haha but so be it. I like to see peoples opinion on the situation no matter what. Apperic the follow up fella, hopefully he will show out against Ball St.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Everybody ranks Sammy in the top five WRs.

Sep 5, 2012, 1:28 PM [ in reply to Re: you are an idiot ]

I would be surprised if anybody gets more facetime on the tube.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

um you are the idiot. if the coaches play him he's expected

Sep 5, 2012, 1:01 PM [ in reply to you are an idiot ]

to perform or he needs to be on the bench. any highly recruit 4 or 5 star player should perform the minute he steps on the field. being expected to catch well throw passes hitting you in both hands is not even showing out, its simply performing at a minimal level of acceptance.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

COOT ALERT!!!

He is tentative and awkward when attempting to return kickoffs. There are many other candidates to choose from!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Watch the game, not the box score

Sep 5, 2012, 12:53 PM

Martavis had 1 long catch on our first drive of the game that was called back for an illegal shift.

He's going to be a good player - just be patient. He only made 1 mistake the entire game(dropped pass in the red zone) to the best of my knowledge.

Bryant is better than anyone SUC has, even on his absolute worst day.

So YES - he is for real.
