Conference additions…..

Could it be with the talk of adding SMU and West Virginia will decrease the exit fee for Clemson and Florida State? Think about this, if SMU and West Virginia have to pay to join the ACC, that would offset some of the exit fee for us and Florida State to leave. Both teams go to the SEC and will make up for the exit fee that was paid out. It’s ironic that adding SMU and West Virginia has come up after the ACC meetings this week. Maybe the talk was at the meeting in the spring was if replacements are found, we wouldn’t have to pay the whole exit fee.

I am curious about your reasoning. We signed up to the GOR which would likely be negotiated down. In your scenario how would the entry fee charged to then new teams (if that is actually a thing), impact the amount of our exit fee?

Just kinda seems odd that back in the spring the talk was us and FSU leaving and nothing about expanding. Then all of a sudden after this weeks meeting SMU and West Virginia would be good candidates to join according to the commish which was the first I heard. Then yesterday reports that FSU wanting to get out again and has to inform the ACC before August 15th.

the GOR. Lawyers for at least 2 schools will jump all over it and the GOR will be DOA.

The ACC will not seek to expand in fear of losing Clemson and FSU.

GOR. None whatsoever. We signed away our media rights to the conference. Conference expansion which only takes place to begin with if the membership votes to expand(not sure if majority or supermajority, but believe the latter) and requires the new school to sign the same GOR we already signed has no impact on our GOR obligations. If it did, then none of the smaller schools would vote for expansion. They are not going to let Clemson and FSU walkway. The conference owning Clemson/FSU rights are potentially worth a billion or more over the duration. They will get Clemson/FSU $ to split amongst themselves whether it's $40mil a year or $100mil per year until 2036. There is no reason for the others to negotiate that either. It's detrimental to them.
