Only a few teams can sustain this level...

...of investment. Despite the changes coming from NCAA as far as institutions paying athletes and so called guard rails on NIL, NIL will continue to a free for all and abused regardless of changes. Schools that check the most of the following criteria will always be on top. Yes, there will be exceptions, but this is always the case.

1.) Size of living alumni base (Texas, OSU, Penn State) (regulations on collectives may make this less important)
2.) Wealth of alumni base (this is tricky because you can have an overall wealth alumni base (SMU, ND) or one wealthy alumni i.e. Phil Knight, Larry Ellison can have huge impact.
3.) Size of college town (not city)...bigger the town, more businesses invest (this may be more important now that collectives will be regulated) - Athens, Columbus, Austin are big towns
4.) Committed fan base - Schools like Clemson thrive on this one
5.) Revenue (school and league) Donor money can focus on football
6.) State Gov - States like Georgia pass legislation that favors local teams and overrides NCAA rules
7) State ownership - Penn State owns PA (Pitt not a factor, OSU owns Ohio) Clemson, Tx schools share their states...and donors.

Clemson has done an INCREDIBLE job keeping up with the Jones's, but it will be hard return to the yera after year dominance. By the way 95% of teams are in the same boat.

If it wasn't for the fact that there are plenty of great HS athletes out there..

who are divinely directed toward men of great integrity like Dabo we'd have reason to be depressed. The moral stances of parents and grandparents play a big part in steering their offspring toward the security offered by Clemson's head coach.

Dabo doesn't forget his promises but is faithful to his word. Money isn't everything, character has more value than gold.

While true, not enough. Just look at what happened this cycle. And while you or others may continue to wear blinders, other schools and coaches do share those values. Choose to believe it or not, other schools have culture too.

Does it help, absolutely. But it's not sustainable for the sheer number of players required. Just look at our blue chip ratios have shrunk and how each year it's shrunk over the past several years.

Either we change or it gets legislated.

1. People with elite talent gravitate to the places where they can profit the most.

2. Other people's integrity doesn't pay the rent.

3. Money and character are not mutually exclusive. Anyone claiming that they are is shilling a false dilemma.

Player term limits and portal guardrails would help.

Only until someone decides they need to be allowed to transfer to the other team at halftime and can get a judge to declare it has to be allowed.

However, baseball has actually traded a player between the two doubleheader games, which has a guy playing for opposite teams a couple of hours apart, so there's a precedent.

Cliff Heathcote in 1922.

(Lucas) the NCAA has admitted that they can't make anyone actually use the portal to transfer, let alone stay within the two FB portal windows.

In 10 years, imagine how different the game will look. I know there has been discussion of a super league(64 teams), but if all of those schools aren't collecting large sums of revenue from TV deals and guardrails aren't put in place(regulations of some sort), then that number will be substantially smaller. Probably 25 or less. Something has to change or this is where we are heading. The current system is not sustainable at all.
