Just got home from that looooong trip to the Valley….

Sep 10, 2022, 11:33 PM

Great to be back I assure you. I didn’t see what I hoped to see in the field but the good guys played well enough. I’m sure the coaches will review the film and see things that they can correct. It was the second game so I didn’t expect perfection. For much of the game DJ showed me noticeable improvement. He’s not there yet but I don’t see him back sliding. Improved play by the receivers and they too will help DJ look better. I had a very positive feeling about the OL this year playing under a new coach. Work to be done there IF the Tigers hope to be in the picture at years end. Great crowd supporting the team today.
Our foe Furman might be a little better than some thought. Time will tell,
I know nothing of the next opponent but I expect a better performance than we saw today. See you in the Valley

Just pulled into my driveway in Laurinburg . . .

myself. It’s a long day for sure, but what a wonderful way to spend it?!!!

Playing on 4 days rest and a short week of preparation was evident today . . . especially on the defensive side of the ball. With all the “home” upsets today, I’ll take today’s win, smile and gladly move on.

Glad we got home safely!!!

I. Clemson made a bunch of errors today that prevented us from running up the score past 3 TD’s.
2. Furman will likely win the SOCON this year.
3. We are spoiled people with stupid expectations.
4. DJ played very well.
5. Klubnik will be a fantastic QB this or next year.

I agree with your post. We are getting there, for sure, INO.

I think the expectations are fair.

Not perfection at all. I dont think anyone is expecting perfection. What we saw yesterday wasnt up to Clemson standards. Its just being realistic. We werent good.

That whole thing yesterday was a mess. Not many positive takeaways in the 2nd half. It's pretty scary when you get punked by Furman for an entire half of football on both sides of the ball.

Great post. Reflecting on the day, there were some definite positives, and areas that need work. It ain’t easy, but this team is coming around. It will get done.

Positives over 2 games

The second half against Tech and first against Furman were the best consecutive quarters of offense we've played since 2020. TD's on 8 of 10 possessions. 9 of 12 if you include the first score of the 2nd half. We were never close to anything like that last year. It's there. Now need to find the game breaking play. We've had plenty of plays 10-20 yards, but not the one that flips the field.

OL went from 3 to 5 yards a carry. With only 59 plays really didn't get the chance to really grind it. The scoring drive in the 2nd half Shipley had 3 runs over 10 yards and we ran it right.

DJ is better. How anyone can say otherwise is beyond me.

Things to work on

Zone defense. We played a lot today. I think that was on purpose, and we saw why.

50/50 balls. EJ muffed 2 today, including one that was egregious. Randall will be back this week or next, and at least Dabo sees him making a difference there.

OL consistency. New guys and guys in New positions takes time. No bad snaps today. Pass blocking was fine. Hopefully we can feed the run this week and run a bunch of plays.

We've seen this before. Our schedule has actually allowed for a sort of preseason this year. We're using this time as Dabo always does. Play guys in different combinations and grade the film, see who performed.
