Note the first comment on this... I don't know when Swofford was at UNC, but certainly he was there in the beginning of this. And if he had any idea (hard to think he didn't -- well heck, even if he didn't... shouldn't he have known what was going on????)
How could the ACC keep him as commish?
However, I seriously don't think anything will ever come of this. They must have a big blue rug in Chapel Hill to sweep all of this crap under!

If UNC is not severely punished then it will simply confirm the perception of corruption many have of the NCAA. I cannot think of anything that gives an university an unfair advantage over other universities moreso than manipulating academic performance to maintain the eligibility of its "student"-athletes!

think for not meeting the required APR. Well, if you go to fake classes which give you an A to maintain the APR, IS THAT NOT MUCH WORSE?

So the article says that the NCAA initially closed the books on this investigation in 2012. Does that mean they had no intention of penalizing unc. Does it mean that having reopened the case they now might enforce some sort of penalty. How long did this process take for Miami as compared to the process for unc. Definitely seems like they get the benefit of the doubt.

The reason the NCAA eventually ended its initial investigation is because of the cover-up by unc and the refusal of certain key individuals to give testimony to NCAA investigators. Enter the Orange Co. District Attorney who began prosecution for misusing state funds (ie, getting paid for NOT teaching courses) and the very real threat of jail time and suddenly people WANTED to give their stories.
When the Wainstein Report was made public, it confirmed even more than most critics had suspected all along. Coupled with the number of former unc employees (some were extremely highly placed in the academic world) who were fired and the number who've had their reputations destroyed and it only seems right for the athletic programs at unc (and most of them participated in this despicable fraud) to be thoroughly punished, castigated and publicly rebuked by both the NCAA and the ACC
John Swofford should have stepped down long ago. I suspect he'll be forced to come next spring when the hammer finally drops in chapelhole.

that apparently all you have to do to stop an NCAA investigation is not to cooperate!
Quote: "The NCAA — which declined to comment — previously closed its investigation into UNC in 2012, but reopened it because additional people agreed to cooperate."

The NCAA has about as much relevance as a used condom.
