sucks right now. Recruiting, developing players and building a team is essentially impossible. Instead, you have to hire a new set of gunslingers every year now; knowing they will only hang around for a year, maybe two. Sad, because it was once a great game that I loved.

Yeah man it’s sad to see. That’s a major reason why womens bball has taken off. Team continuity. Less transfers and the best talent staying all 4 years.

Van Lith bolted her Louisville team to ring chase at LSU and is now transferring again. Cardoss for SC was a transfer from Syracuse. There are teams with entire transfer rosters. The problem is there also

Like most, I don’t like losing players that I hoped to watch develop for 4 years.
However, specifically regarding basketball, the old way never worked so well for us. No conference championships since the SOCON, except for the 1990 regular reason. No significant tournament runs.
It was really almost impossible for us to compete with a UNC or Duke who recruited better and kept their players for 3 or 4 years.
In a way this helps level the playing field a bit for the “have nots” of the world. Which is the reason I hate it more in football.

The Portal has little to do with this and NIL has nothing to do with it. College basketball has been different since the time of 1 and done started and if you look at NBA Mock Drafts, they are slap full of players who just played their freshman year. Things change and you change with them, or die, just like business.

This holds no water. How many 1 and Done's has Clemson ever had on their roster? None that I recall. This has not been the reason for the full turnover of team's rosters. Typically a team might have one on the team and of course a few of the shoe-money teams had more than one 1-n-Done, but they also just reloaded (bought) the next top McDonald players.
This is exactly whats happening with NIL today. If you don't see the problem then you are blind.

Just a reminder that one-and-done has zero to do with any NCAA rules.
One-and-done is a result of the NBA and NBA Players Association collectively bargaining to allow 19-year-olds one year removed from HS graduation to be in the league (or more precisely, to disallow younger players). If the NBA set their age limit at the same level as the NFL, we'd have players for 3 years like we do in football. But there again, the juniors are the age limit set by the NFL having collectively bargained with the NFL Players Association.
One and done and leaving early in football are the result of unions colluding with their employers to artificially keep younger player out of the leagues, but wanting to have little of their cake, too, by letting teams poach *most* of the best of the college ranks while they're still in college.

Agree. You can't get attached to players as fans anymore. Used to feel like family now they leave as soon as they get here most of the time. No loyalty. Why would anyone leave the Clemson family?
