Nature has a plan

In a debate right now from the porch with some kids on YardCrap as to fitness, diet, and living forever.
Folks here on Tnet know all and are quick to set me straight, so toss my thinking out for humorous debate.
Most older people die from old age, a few are murdered or die in car accidents, but most die of old age. For most old age is around 60.
Average life expectancy in the United States is 77.
I argue he deal to hope for is not how long one lives, but how many years one lives with "relative" good health being able to do the things you want to do (enjoying life). Nature seems to have built in a plan for that. The older one gets, new things take importance over things one valued at 20.
For example, I still enjoy this
but don't get too excited as those days are gone for me. I get more interested seeing a hot septuagenarian at the Senior Center.

Not even one reply, so I will.
Once part of my job was to follow up on all who died in Charlotte not in a hospital. I took classes at University of Louisville as to dead people, could testify as an expert in court. About once a week would drop by the morgue and go over the recent autopsies. Most all old folks were listed as dead by arteriosclerosis or some other heart related event.
My take away is try to keep your cardio system up, just walked up to my mail box and back, so I am good to go. Now need a cold one to recuperate.

You are too fast for me and so are all those good-looking Females in your original statement. Friends, if I was to rate myself on a scale of 1 to 13, I would come in at a -3.

Not too fast for you or any. I would be a -33 maybe a 32 as the 2nd photo is Mrs Tug who has no sense of what a good man is so hangs out with me. The debate is about long happy life not womins.

I agree. Those young in’s are still nice to look at but I need a lady with a bit of seasoning as well. Not quite octogenarian range…yet. I’d be too afraid to break their hip.
As far as cardio goes I run at least a 5k a day. Never below that 3.11 mile range but always a little above. I like winning the 50+ class and turning in times faster than a lot of thirty something dudes. I also spend about 10 hours a week doing high Time Under Stress weight exercises. I’m not quite ready to be an underwear model but I am getting closer!
Cold beer and neat bourbon keep my figure youthful!

It would be great if you paced me at a goal 5K in 2026 (Hartwell ###). I could use help. At 80 don't want to "win" the age group but to go under the age group course record of all who have raced there over 47 years where the best of SC and Georgia often show. Right now am over 200lbs and happy, have over a year to get in shape to attempt that.
At 50 ran a 5k most weeks hoping to be under 18, so this is not a crazy goal.

Did you ever go to the body farm at the university of Tennessee? Pretty cool place for those working in death. One of my medical courses on my way to a PsyD took me up there. Many body in many different states of decay. They doing some good work up there although morbid.

No, got on the job training as folks murdered each other in Charlotte. I used to forbid my Bride to answer the phone so I would not be called in.
I kinda have a Phd on folks killing each other.

UL brought in the guys who did autopsy on Jim Jones, Kennedy, etc. Pathologists expert at drowning, burning, blood splatter, etc showed. Every class was gruesome for my tender emotions.

One is surely old at 60 as they are nearer the casket than the crib. The deal is to live to 77 and maybe beyond having as much fun as possible.

Dope, tobacco, alcohol, bad food choices, genes, smog, even emotions are killers. We all makes our choices (except genes) and have to live with that. One can always improve life style. The deal is the trade off. Giving up a fun thing to maybe live a little longer might not be a good trade.

Some say after the Rapture Christians will be brought before the judgment seat of Christ. He will reward them on the basis of the works they have accomplished. This is not a judgment to determine their salvation but a reward for labor on Christ's behalf.
Does that mean folks who have not been "saved" have a chance at not going to H ell or Heaven but some other place?

You made me split out my healthy salad with your “took a course at UL on dead people” and “dropped by occasionally at the Charlotte morgue to look at autopsies”.
Good God man, have 2 beers, relax and forget going to the mailbox thingie on Sat. Ha..
