He’s been an analyst, isn’t used to the spotlight, he’s gonna grow into the job. Till they lose cut him some slack.

This was the most Abysmal performance by our secondary in decades. The Cornerbacks virtually never turn their Heads to locate the ball. Hence, the most Pass Inteference Calls I’ve seen in my life. Went to my first Clemson game in 1966.

Just curious which three FR starters you are referring to? Fred Davis, Wiggins, mickens and Phillips are not freshman. Not any of them. Only freshman that may have started was Pride

Did you expect 2 freshmen to come out and play like 5th year seniors when they have barely played 3 games combined? Yes they got torched, but they are as green as the day is long. Wakes veteran receivers and QB took advantage of that. How many times in all your years of going to games did you ever see 2 freshmen db's play pretty much the entire game at the same time? They didn't play well, we all saw it, but ease up a bit, they'll learn. Hopefully the trial by fire prepares them if needed down the road this season. Clemson won, enjoy it.

championship secondary in 2018. Gave up tons of yards in a 56-35 win over South Carolina, then shut down Pitt for the ACC title then Notre Dame and Bama for the national title. They will get better. Need a better pass rush as well.

3 freshman DBs started.
In the past, any DB that played much for us as a freshman was a pretty definite NFL early round draft prospect.
and we have plenty of DBs that were drafted that couldn't get on the field as freshman.
DB is really one of the hardest positions to play as a newcomer.

Have you ever watched a Danny Ford interview? I watched them all including those when he was ripped at Arkansas. I recorded some of Sunday post game TV shows. Have them on VHS. Wes is a smooth talker compared to Danny and I will leave it at that. And as I recall, Ford did have some success (despite himself) during his tenure.

I agree actually! Nobody is giving Wake Forrest any credit. "They Good"! How about we should be happy we won aginst an opponent who probably has been able to hide much of their offense so far in order to unleash it for Clemson.
And, we stopped them when we needed to. So, yep, give the Man and the defense some slack.
A healthy Makuba and we get at least two int's i.m.o because of his range at safety; but as the OP said, "he was one of a few missing starters on defense for this game".

He is said to have a great memory. When he goes back and looks; I think he makes the adjustment.
Changing and shifting the front to adjusting to a team that's scren gaming you to death. I think he'll learn. This is when hopefully the relationships in the locker room are strong enough to where someone can make a suggestion and not get their head bit off for making a suggestion.
On to Nancy State. Flush this performance and improve this week in practice is all I can say.

Agree with this. Remember how the option from GA Tech gave VB fits the first couple of years then he figured out how to totally shut it down. This slow mesh is a similar gimmicky type of offense that we will most likely only see once a year. I believe Wes will have something for them next time especially if we have healthier d backs

He knew exactly what they were going to do and had no plan - how does he defend playing so much man when they were scorching the DBs? Very inauspicious start for him. That second half took me back to Kevin Steele… BUT, how does every team we play in the ACC have better receivers than our 4/5 star guys? Our guys had a good game, WF receivers had a dominant game. Literally every player on our starting 22 were higher rated recruits than the opponents. Possibly the recruiting process discounts the gamers and lifts the big bodies due to the numbers…it would be nice to have some 3 stars with big hearts. I’d say he appeared flustered because he was celebrating the win but knew that he was bailed out by the O…

You can beat experienced players with talent. If you have young talent it’s more difficult. If that isn’t truth then Oklahoma would probably be undefeated.

He should feel frustrated. Glad he feels nervous. Glad he wasn't happy. If he is what everyone raved about then he will fix this. Just like he fixed the screen passes that whooped our butts against GT. It was the most pathetic performance I ever seen a secondary have. However, we have to give him time. Conn has shown that he can develop players into top NFL prospects. So I will hold judgement for now.

I think Goodwin is in over his head. The freshman DBs don't explain why our D-line (which was considered to possibly be the best in the nation) couldn't sack the QB. We should have had way more than 3 sacks, esp. since Wake uses an offense where the plays are slow to develop.

"(which was considered to possibly be the best in the nation)"
The same hype machine that had/has DJ as a preseason Heisman candidate the last 2 years?
When watching ANY game, the talking heads will talk about several coaches and players as "one of the best in the nation".
A team is only as good as they play. Period.
We're going to have our work cut out for us several times this season.

Played his cards right? He was dealt a bad hand but if Goodwin thinks he played his cards right, then fire him now. You make mistakes and hopefully he is man enough to admit Some of it was on him. The fact that you won't call him out doesn't mean he did well. This game is behind us. Learn and move on.
