How Good Are We?
The only decent comparison I see is Clemson vs Tennessee.
Both teams have crushed lesser opponents.
Both teams put up 50 plus in one half alone against NC State.
Both offenses have looked as good as any in the country and at times unstoppable with very confidence quarterbacks.
However, when Tennessee played a good defense they only scored 25pts against Oklahoma. And, when Clemson played a great defense in Georgia, they only scored 3pts.
Tigers and Volunteers have great offensive numbers and great defenses.
If the Tigers and Tennessee played this Saturday how would expect that game to turnout?
Seems this year is tougher than ever to predict the top 10 teams. Guess all you can do is take things one game at a time.
I’ve definitely learned not to get too high or low. But, we sure do look much improved on the offensive side of the ball.
What are your thoughts?

but here I think UT is legit. Not #1, but definitely deserving of where they are. I love how Heupel doesn't mess around with the offense. Full speed ahead and now they have gotten the D alot better.

I would give the Vols the edge at the moment. However, by the time we would meet in the playoffs, things might be different.

Our quarter back, Nico, was removed from the game in the second quarter. We played FIVE quarterbacks. All starters were on the bench the second half with second, third and even scout players playing the second half. You've got bad information.

Tennessee has beaten Chattanooga, NC State, Kent State, and Oklahoma. And their next two games are at Arkansas and at home vs Florida. The Vols are pretty good so far, but we won't know how good until the second half of the season.

I see you guys need straightened up. Nico, our quarterback, was benched for the game in the second quarter. All staters sat out the second half. We played FIVE quarterbacks. Second, third, fourth and even scout players played the second half. The only 'starters' that saw action in the second half was the kicker.

Clemson would struggle to move the ball on Tennessee. That Volunteer front is legit. I think it would play out much like the Georgia game did - competitive for a half with the Vols pulling away. 27 - 13 Vols.

We have 9 regular season games left.
They’re still getting better and practicing and doing everything they did all year round. It’s just during the season.
Takes a full 12 games. We saw them develop from a 4-3 team with not much care, to then go on and win 6 straight games and beat teams like Notre Dame.
And also, ESPN ranked us as the current number 1 offense in the country.
Not Tennessee lol

The gentleman posting above about Nico not playing in the second half is confusing NC State with Kent State. His information is correct for the Kent state game. He’s probably into the celebratory white likker a little too much for a Sunday.
The real issue is that it’s unwise to try and compare how two teams would play each other based on a common opponent- otherwise one might assume that SAla is just as good as Clem based on the beatings of the Boone squad.
Having watched every Clem game and Tenn game (I live in Greenville) I would say that Clemson would have a lot of trouble scoring into the 30s on the Tenn D - and that Tenn would score 30 or more. No way to know of course -
One thing we all do know, however, is that the gamecock football program is an embarrassment to the game. I cannot stress this enough.

We don’t want none of Tennessee.
As much as I hate to admit it… they are the real deal and the kid at QB is going to be something.
Manning will go #1 in 2026 draft but Iamaleava will go #2 right behind him… he’s that good and he’s still learning and figuring it out.
Everybody knows how great their offense is but the difference right now for Tennessee is they really do have a good defense with a potential top 5 pick at EDGE in James Pearce.
They are strong on the LOS especially on defense. I believe Tennessee is better than Georgia and Alabama and just a notch under Texas.
Texas and Tennessee are the 2 best teams I’ve seen IMO.
I hope we avoid drawing Tennessee in the playoffs. I would rather face Georgia or Bama and probably just about anyone else than Tennessee.
This is not to say they won’t lose a game somewhere but I just don’t think we match up with them very well at all.

Hate to say it, but TN's defensive front is really, really good with a lot of depth. Might be the best in CFB at the moment, just my own $0.02 worth.
