Clemson top 4 seed if 2022 expanded CFP playoffs

The 12-team College Football Playoff starts in 2024 season selecting the committee's six highest-ranked conference champions and its next six highest-ranked teams. The four highest-ranked conference champions will earn the top seeds and a first-round bye.

BYE: 1 Georgia , 2 Michigan , 3 TCU , 4 Clemson (ranked 7th in end of season CFP rankings, but leapfrog non-champs Ohio State, Alabama and Tennessee)

First round matchups hosted on campus:
12 Tulane at 5 Ohio State (Tulane replaces Washington at #12 since conference champ)
11 Penn State at 6 Alabama
10 Southern Cal at 7 Tennessee
9 Kansas State at 8 Utah

Potential quarterfinal matchups hosted at bowl games:
4 Clemson vs Ohio State/Tulane
3 TCU vs. Alabama/Penn State
2 Michigan vs. Tennessee/Southern Cal
1 Georgia vs. Utah/KState

That game versus Ohio State is a tough watch. Alabama could prove they belong over TCU. Michigan has another fun matchup, while UGA continues to advance.

2022 was pretty clean with Washington the weakest 10-2 team remaining and missing playoffs. Going to be ugly selection debate if a bunch of 9-3 teams are ranked #10th-15th

Based on Top 4 seeds as conference champs, does that mean Notre Dame would never receive a BYE?

Notre Dame doesn't deserve a BYE. Enjoy being Independent.

Regarding Notre Dame, you are correct - they could not receive a Bye. However, the AD was asked about this, and effectively said that they are happy with that set-up, as they would prefer to host a home playoff game than receive a bye anyway, as it means more revenue and income for the school and town.

I've gotta say, I think I agree with their logic. I'd much rather get to go to Clemson and watch a home playoff game than get a bye.

If we stayed the #7 seed, that home matchup against Southern Cal would be awesome. I'd love to see some new unique opponents.

Might as well name the 1st round as the SEC invitational

SEC teams will be a lock for ranking positions 5-8

It just means more ... home field advantage.
