CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson Women’s Soccer team hosts No. 25 (TDS) Virginia Tech at Historic Riggs Field for a Thursday night match. The game is set to kick off at 8 p.m. and slated to stream on ACC Network.
The Tigers and Hokies have met 17 times, most recently in 2020 when Clemson claimed a 3-0 victory. The Tigers lead the overall series 7-6-4 and have won the last four matchups against the Hokies. Virginia Tech comes into the match with a 8-2-2 overall record and a 2-0-2 ACC record. They are led by midfielder Emily Gray with nine goals, four assists and 22 total points and forward Nicole Kozlova with seven goals, two assists and 16 points.
Megan Bornkamp leads the team with 21 points, as she has netted eight goals and added five assists on the season, followed by Renee Lyles, Makenna Morris and Renee Guion with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Renee Guion has tallied ten assists and a goal on the season and is third in the nation for total assists. Seven Tigers have at least six points on the season.
Comeback Team • The Tigers came back from down one to beat NC State 2-1 for its second ACC win and first road win. • Megan Bornkamp successfully converted on a penalty kick and freshman Renee Lyles recorded her first game-winning goal to secure the win.
ACC Opener Won • Hal Hershfelt and Megan Bornkamp each recorded a goal to propel the Tigers to a 2-0 win over No. 19 Pittsburgh in the ACC opener. • Senior goalkeeper Hensley Hancuff recorded her first clean sheet of the season and registered three saves.
Tigers Earn Weekly Honors • Sophomore Megan Bornkamp was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for her six points against South Carolina and Gardner-Webb. This was Bornkamp’s second honor of her early career. • Junior Hal Hershfelt was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week after registering a goal against both South Carolina and Gardner-Webb, a team-high for the week.
Tigers Finish Non-Conference Strong • Clemson finished the non-conference slate strong with a 4-0 win over Gardner-Webb. • Four Tigers scored in the match: Hal Hershfelt, Renee Lyles, Fran Stables and Harper White. • Stables recorded her first career goal while White registered her first goal of the season. • Megan Bornkamp recorded a team and career-high with three assists.
Palmetto State Won • The Clemson Tigers beat South Carolina in an epic rivalry match (9/9) • Junior Hal Hershfelt and sophomore Megan Bornkamp recorded goals in the match, giving Bornkamp 14 points on the year. • Renee Guion recorded two assists in the match, bringing her total to nine on the season.
